3020 hyd connector problem

We have a JD 3020 and can't insert the hydraulic adapters. Worked fine last year, but now we can't even drive them in with a hammer. Just like every thing is under major pressure. We tried moving levers, tractor running and shut off. Nothing works.
What's the problem? What's the cure? Thanks.

I always shut the tractor off, and work the lever both ways before inserting the tip. Pressure needs to be off the implement as well. Did you damage something with the unnecessary hammering? Do you use the SCVs so little that they are encrusted with dried grease and need a good cleaning? Are the SCVs in the rear position when you attempt to couple?

I have had this problem with my 3020s when pressure was left on the implement hose more than once. I would push the end of the coupler on the implement hose to see if it had pressure on it. On my old Gehl baler if I don't turn the tractor off and work the lever to relieve hose pressure it will not hook up until you push the end of the hose to let pressure off. Sometimes you have to rap it pretty hard and hyd. fluid goes everywhere so be carefull! Also put your hand behind the outlets on the tractor to be sure they are pushed toward you. Good luck! Lee

Does your 3020 have break-away couplers and do the release levers move the release ball and spring inside the coupler? Possibly its the male end of the implement you are hooking up the culprit? Same implement with correct tip as used last year? I have had unhooked hoses pressurize themselves, too. I suppose by the settling of the implement.

Are barrels(parts key #15) slide back in housing??

Have you tried connecting with the engine not running? If you can connect with the engine not running your SCV's need rebuilding.

When you say adaptor I am going to assume you mean the inline ones that convert from one style coupler to another.
If so can you remove and reinstall the adaptor on the line to the implement without any problems?
Try this on both lines as likley there is only pressure on one of them.
With the adaptor removed from the line to the implement will it now connect to the tractor?
This will determine if the issue is with the tractor, the adaptor or an issue with residual pressure from the implement.
Once you get the results of this it will be easier to help you.

Actually minor residual pressure in attaching hose male fitting shouldn't be a big problem because lever(parts key #39) has a notch built into to allow male tip to seat without ball being depressed until lever is turned to open oil flow path.

(quoted from post at 06:07:44 06/01/14) Nothing is damaged, everything is new and spotless. I just can't snap the adapters in.
hen you say everything is new and spotless, does that mean that you or someone else has rebuilt the couplers? if so is it possible that the barrels were changed from JD to ISO tips?

Had the very same problem with my 4030 outlets. I tried everything… . The outlets would not give up the hoses either. Note Tx Jim's diagram. One day when I couldn't get the hoses to release, I lightly hammered the front end of part 15 and they released with ease. Next time part 15 was forward, I oiled the part sticking out (nearly up against tractor) of part 33. Helped.

When you attach and unattached the hydraulic hose, that part
15 slides forward or rearward . It seems to freeze up a bit and
is the problem. Tx Jim is the man of the day with his diagram.

Actually the diagram is probably the wrong one. Although the internals are the same the housing is for a standard(wheatland) tractor.

You are absolutely correct. Item # 15 had slid forward and stuck, not allowing the little balls to collapse outward. I tapped the # 15 rearward and that let me hook up. Thanks. You all were very helpful.
