What a disaster

Had about 3a of grass I decided to cut and bale. This is how it went;

First, the mower has slid off it's block and the tonge is buried in the dirt. - got it back on the block. Second, it hs a flat. - air up tire, must be a slow leak.

Ok so now it is hooked up.

Pull up on the hyd lever an raised the machine. Hear a hissing sound, get off tractor thinking the tire is having issues. Nope, blew seal in the cylinder, hyd fluid going everywhere.

Fix that, finally get it out in the field. Go through and service it. oK now it am ready to mow.

About half way down the first pass the reel stops and it plugs up. Get down and find the drive sprocket missing. CRAP! Spend 15 mins locating it. Back to the shop, fix it and proceed back to the field.

Start where I left off go maybe 30 feet, and the reel drive chain jumps off. Put it back on and 30 feet later it is off again. OK something is not right. Looking closely I see the upper roller has bearing issues. Back to the shop.

Half way up the drive the mower drops to the ground. Blew the hose at the cylinder. SOB! Drag it of the drive, unhook and go get the sickle mower.

Hook it up, go to service it and remember I stole a hold down last fall. Locate a hold down, install it, and service it. Back to the field.

Having a terrible time plugging. Check knives, guards, and hold downs. Finally figured out the drive belt was on the loose side. Back to the shop, add shims to tighten belt. Back to the field.

Finally get to mow. What a disaster........

Hmmm....sounds like you got out of the "end" of the bed this morning. That is a lot to go through for 3 acres.

ErrinOh, An I thought I had a bad day. Stopped by napa 20miles to pick up points for 930(after they said would match up) didnt have.Back home to hook up car hauler to take ford 1600 mowing. No mater where I put things they always end up in the way . Hooked up trailer got in a hurry drove over car ramp. flats on right rear of truck and front right of trailer both tires ruined . Put truck spare on, forgot the. trailer spare was ruined earlier, called it a day . Errin Oh it could always be worse lol

A couple of years ago I went through a week like that. Told my Mom I should have stayed in bed; then corrected, & said I guess if I want the bed I better stay out of it too!

There was a song that went, "Mamma told me there'd be days like this, there'd be days like this, my Mamma said." Y'know what, Mamma is always right! Sorry about your bad luck, though.

sometimes ya gotta take the bad with the awful. :]
no matter how bad you think you got it, someones always got it worse.

It's always best to plan out a few days of "fix it" before you try to hay. THe smart guys do all that while the snow is flying, but I don't have a indoor work area big enough, so it's this time of year that I do my fixing.

I feel for ya though, BTDT!

I got mine cut, but the drum mower decided to take the skirt off and wind it up around one of the drums. Thinking I need to make/get a new one. Now if I can only get the hay dry before Monday's rain. Weather is drying, but there's a lotta moisture in the hay.

Lol! Have to agree with rr. Heck that is a normal day. At least you got out of the driveway and into the field before something fell apart. Seriously though, I hope the rest of you haying goes a bit smoother.

The way to look at it is you do not have a payment book on a new machine staring at you every month. It is still on early in the season around here. Not much rain forecast.

doing up 6 acres with IH model 100 7ft sickle bar mower. cutter bar knives, lil old, n guards lil worn. farmhand wheel rake, new holland super 68 hayliner baler. mower dont come off till raking is done, has hitch off back to pull rake or tedder, then drop mower n hook up baler n bale on ground. go hook up pickup n lo profile trailer, load em up. lol.

BTW this made me think of what my mom told me long, long ago when I was a kid. Our neighbor across the road had an old manure spreader that quit working. She heard him whistling as he worked forking it off by hand. She was impressed enough to tell me about it more than once for situations like yours.
