BR780 buyer remorse, maybe!

Went to an auction last Sunday wanting to buy a grinder/mixer. Grinder mixer went for more than I wanted to give, which usually happens!! Down the line are some New Holland round balers. Not really needing a different baler, didn't even look at them. Auctioneers got to them and the first one went pretty high second was pretty cheap and the third was getting cheaper. Did a quick look over and ended up paying $2700 for a New Holland BR780 Big Round baler. Felt kinda good about getting it, but I am one who constantly worries about things. Now I hear that there have been lots of problems with the BR780 baler, so I am pretty sick about it. The baler looks pretty darn good actually. Are they the junk that people are telling me about?

I think that is what my cousins have. Ive baled a lot of bales with it. The automatic tie can be touchy, making sure all the parts for it are kept clean does help.

Yep, I did get a good buy IF it is a good baler!! We had our calf branding yesterday here, and a friend told me I would hate it before very long. Said the local New Holland dealer won't even take them in on trade.

They're junk, send it to KY.. I'll give you your money back. I'll scrap it for you, yeah that's what it needs.

We have a BR740A.....(4X5 bale) Has the bale command plus controls. If it is like our baler, you are gonna love it. Condition and care/treatment are everything......but......I love that baler of ours. $2800 sounds dirt cheap to me......ours was $25,000 +/- new in '06......

You more or less stole it for that price. You can't even buy a decent 660 up here for that.

Get a manual. I used to work for a New Holland dealer, and I'd always be looking in the book. They aren't the simplest of balers, but when set properly, are a force to be reckoned with. A couple of questions; is it a "mega wide" pickup? If it is, check to make sure the stuffer crank on the pickup is straight. The earlier ones didn't have the center support, if I recall correctly. Also, take the drive chain for the roll group off. Make sure they turn freely with no tough spots. I can't remember much about the tie adjustments, but a manual is a great help.

If still in doubt, I know where you could easily double your money!
