25 pound LP cylinder

I need a small tank to plumb into an air control system. A new cylinder at about $30 seems like a low cost option provided it can withstand 90 to 100 psi and I assume it has a 3/4 tapered pipe thread in the top of the tank. I plan to remove the valve. I know it is not the intended use but want to know what to expect to go wrong.

I used a new 20 lb tank to make an oil bleeder (like a brake bleeder) for filling hard to reach tractor differentials. No problem hooking it to the air compressor with 100psi or more inlet.

I plan on converting one to an air tank. I was thinking it might be easiest to just get a POL adaptor and leave the original valve on the tank. I was told they are loctited in a could be a pain to remove.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Propane tanks are usually rated for 250 PSI. You can buy kits to convert them to air tanks.

Anybody that fills tanks will probably give you a tank with the old valve in it for free, then use an old LP to pipe adapter.
That will give you a shut off valve and safety all in one.

I'm using one of those old tanks...anyone know what psi the "pop off" valve lets loose??

We were just discussing that the other day so I researched it. I found that the relief is supposed to be set to 312 psi. I have gotten old steel fork truck tanks and used them for air compressor tanks, work real well!

Where I work we change the valves on 20 lb tanks all the time, only problem is holding tank. We have a 2" ratchet strap bolted to a stand that we strap it in and just turn it out. Yes 3/4" pipe threads. We have a wrench we made that fits on valve, use a 3/4" drive ratchet.

I made a foamer tank for the sprayer from one, and a tire bead blower upper. from another. The valve is hard to get out but it will come out. They will always have a little LP in the pores so be careful of flames around them with the valve out. I have cut them with a torch after I ran Air in them for 30 minutes or so.
