What is the best tractor you ever owned? I think it is
my '67 706 turbo(310).Owned it since Mar'84.I started over with it after the bank 'sold me out in early '84.Has
over 11,000 hrs and still strong(96 horses)Done
everything with it.Still my favorite of the
'herd'.The 3 bottom plow and tractor have been together since they were new.I am the 3rd owner(and hopefully the last) of both.My SuperM is up there, too.

Mine has to be my 75hp Massey Ferguson 590. I bought it brand spanking new in 1976 when I was just 15. Put 2000 hours on it the first year! and it is still running and doing plenty of work for me, although it is no longer the 'front line' tractor. It has done everything from chopping silage to muck spreading and ploughing and power-harrowing.....Everyone in our area knows that tractor, and they keep asking me if it is still working, like it was some elderly relative! ( We normally don't run tractors much over 15 years old here) The hour meter stopped at 13066 hrs, but I was still doing over 800 hrs/year with it per year up until 6 years ago, Now it only does around 200 hrs/year. The engine is getting tired, but does not really dirty the oil between changes and the tin needs tidying. Although the brakes are still good, there is no adjustment left....Some of these years I will find time to put her right again and like yours ....It is not for sale!!!!............

(quoted from post at 04:46:26 02/21/14) samn40 = I was going to say my MF-240-S but I better keep my mouth shut....

really, im a bit intimidated too !!! im just small potatoes, im on the bottom rung of the ladder, but hey, at least i made it on the ladder. we have about 8 acres that are farm-able once we get it irrigated and all the implements it takes. last Tuesday i purchased a ford 340B and i got it for $1500 so it's my favorite tractor of our small herd right now.

First would have to be my 1975 Yanmar Diesel MFWD with FEL & Box Scraper. Only 510 original hours when I bought it, and it still looks & works like new.

Second is my 1951 Caterpillar D-2 5U Bulldozer.

CUTs probably don't count but here goes.

Kubota B1750HST, bought new in 1993.

It's on its third battery but aside from that and regular lube, oil and filter changes it has needed NOTHING in the 20+ years that I've owned it. Absolutely nothing. Not so much as a fuse, lamp or fan belt.

Clearly the best major purchase of my life.

if I had to choose by which tractor had given me the least amout of problems it would have to be a toss up between my 59' Fordson Power Major and my A/C 7020, both very reliable and over the years not many problems.

John Deere 4020 diesel side counsel and 6070 Allis Chalmers are two of the best, also have an 830 Case that was the "big" tractor for many years, excellent tractor. A 170 Allis Chalmers that was used very day as a loader tractor for 20 years, only one clutch in that time. 860 Ford that was the "big" tractor from 1960-1983. Allis Chalmers D-14 that is used regularly and has been since 1960. I guess we have several best tractors!

You have to appreciate a ford industrial at that price, a very nice find, especially with hydraulic top link and level box. Of course that yellow thing with tracks in the background ought to be a reliable, as they were very well built.

Lots of things in the photos to appreciate, but the most interesting thing and something for some reason I notice or happen to see so often is the pair of yellow car ramps !!! It seems if you look at enough CL ads, (hint: I am a CL junky) I will guarantee without fail, you will see a pair of yellow car ramps with a slight bit of fade or rust, they always look exactly like those. Naturally, amongst my outdoor clutter, I have a pair of yellow car ramps which I do use for a variety of things. I don't even recall where the heck they came from, I swear the things grow like weeds, they're everywhere !

Played in the snow all winter LONG with this my favorite 70D.

Not saying that I never worked on it,but I beat that 1020 Deere right in to the ground for 31 years and it still runs.
Hard to beat the Oliver 77 and 1850 Perkins diesel. The 1550 gas has been about as trouble free as you can get.

My best tractor was a John Deere 70 diesel. Bought it used , had it for 9 yrs, doing everything with it from hard work to easy jobs.
We put 500 hrs. a yr.on it. The repairs were less than $ 100. per yr. clint

For me it has to be our John Deere 4010. It was given to me by my Dad when I started farming in 1990. We put a complete 4020 engine in it and it was our big tractor for years. We always did all our chopping with it and used a 4020 on our silage bagger. We collect a few pieces of old equipment and the pic shows our 12 forage harvester. We use a 3940 for most of our chopping.

It's long gone now but the best one we had back on the farm was an AC WD with an M&W power kit in it. Pulled like a bull and never, ever had a minutes trouble with it. It was probably about 15 yrs. old when we got it. My brother and I used to fight over who would get to plow with it vs. the Ford Commander 6000.

I have 12 antique tractors, but I think my favorite is my parents Yanmar F-18 D. I know, I know, it is a little modern, but we bought it for $2500 in 02. It is a 1985, real low hours, and it came with a rototiller, box blade, and a back-blade. It even has a loader on it with 4wd!

The little beast is unstoppable, I have driven through 5 foot snow berms without a problem. Yes, that is THROUGH, not OVER!

It also has a little sentimental value to it as well, because that was the first tractor that me AND my dad AND my mom learned to drive. ;)

Overall, my 4240 is probably the best tractor that I have ever had, but I also love my 2520. It's the handiest thing we have here. Easy on fuel, easy handling, and low maintenance. I bought it new in 1970....

We had a 1066 IH that was pretty good but my overall favorite is the AC 185, never let us down, only spent money on oil changes and filters.

I have never owned a JD but have always thought that the 2130 was a nice tractor with good power and features for a small farm. Looks like you are putting yours to good use.

fORD 2N wAS the worst. Fooled ya. Looked real nice but totally worn out. Bought from local fire chief. Repainted but that was all. Lucky I rould resell it. Dave
