Ordered propane...and wind chill?

Ordered propane for the house. Is a minimum of 200 gallon. Is at $4.00 per gallon in SW MN. It was at $2.09 last month. Turned the furnace down some more but am wondering if there is a conversion chart for windchill inside the house? It usually isnt too bad if I dont move too fast lol.... :/

paid 1.59 last fall and 2.19 yesterday - now I got an $1100.00 to pay. Would normally not needed more propane before late spring.

Last summer, I contracted 1,000 gallons at $1.40 per gallon.

Our house is well insulated and easy to heat, and we typically use, on average, about 900 gallons per year.

I don't even know what the price off the truck is now. I pay cash for my shop tank, but I have enough in it to last till spring.

Guess I'm safe.

Neighbor got some Tuesday at $2.59 a gallon. I ordered it Wednesday and showed up today $3.89. He said the price went up this morning to $4.29. Driver said there could be shortages around here. He said we had plenty right now but passed several out of state trucks picking it up.

That is one reason I have electric heat pump. If I ever build the house I want it will have the option of electric heat pump wood and some sort of other heat. But if I ever build that house it will also have extra good insulation

As much as the furnace is running in this cold wind,I've thought about turning the thermostat down, but what would be the point? Right now the furnace is maintaining the temperature at a certain level. If I turn it down, once every surface in the house drops to that temperature,it will run just as much maintaining that temperature unless I turn it down to the outside temperature.

That is what I was wondering as well. I dont doubt there will be more people contracting for next winter but Im guessing the propane companies are betting on it so I wonder if the price will go as low as it was before. It may hit a bottom at $2.00 or slighly under. Didnt gasoline and diesel start out that way? If they know what you will pay...

NW Indiana - Ashland Propane - $5.00/gal
NW Indiana - Co-Alliance LaPorte County - $6.50/gal

These are today"s prices.

here in NE Indiana, I just heard today a local company has to go to Texas for their next load of LP. They claim it will be over $7 a gal.to customers..

You are doing OK. Had to buy some off road diesel. $369 per gallon. $3.09 in December. Nothing to do with shortage, just greed.

Just like driving during a holiday or vacation time. They see the weather pattern and now its their turn to suck some green from us.

last time fuel did this I added two wood pellet stove in the house. much cheaper then most fuels except nat gas and not much work.

I wonder what Amerigas South Bend, IN. is getting now. They filled mine in third week of December and they quoted me $4.25 a gallon and after some haggling got them down to $3.42 a gallon.

(quoted from post at 20:00:38 01/24/14) i look for it to get to 5.00 before it's over, wind chill and greed factor about the same...
It hit $5.00 here today. Well, $4.99 and 9/10ths.
AND they've limited the [b:f143b6db25]maximum[/b:f143b6db25] delivery to 100 gallons.
Previously the [b:f143b6db25]minimum[/b:f143b6db25] delivery was 200 gallons.
Glad I don't have to pay market rate.
I do know someone that bought their own tank this year.
They figured they could shop around and buy from the cheapest
bidder that way. I hope it doesn't bite them too bad.

Shortage in NW IN, wanted my tank full on Monday. Only would give me 200 gal. This is at the shop. Price for wood at home same as 1995... One good thing about firewood, I got a lot and I know where to find more.

What does electricity cost in your area?
There is the same amount of heat in one gallon of LP as there is in 20KWhr of electricity when figuring a typical LP unit with 75% efficiency.
That makes $5.00/gallon LP equal to the price of 25 cent per KW electricity.
Also with a few portable heaters. One primary room can be kept cozy and the rest down to 50-60F.

Dad, my brother and I burn wood, my brother and I have oil back up, dad has propane, dad said its $3.49 here now! Oil is $3.69, more bang for your buck with oil, but I agree it's all a rip off. I feel bad for all the people that are getting fleeced to heat there homes. Alot of people knock wood, but I wouldent be without it right now.

not really-the BTU loss thru a wall is dependent upon the temperature differential--all other factors being the same a lower internal temperature will have less of a heat loss

Got an "EMERGENCY" letter today from Franger in Elkhart. They always showed up, filled the tank, left a bill. NOW they say its our responsibility to call them when the tank level gets down to 20%, AND "Effective immediately we are going to smaller deliveries to spread the fuel as far as possible".

They gave five reasons why this is...my fault. First, an unusually wet harvest season and bumper crop meant that farmers requested and got significantly more propane than normal. Second, pipeline maintenance shutdown 5 named propane terminals in DECEMBER, not in the summer when usage would be minimal. Third, because oil is coming down from Canada by rail, not pipeline, cars that were used for propane were "repurposed" for oil. Fourth, there is an enormous amount of propane being exported from the U.S. to Europe and Asia because U.S. propane is the cheapest in the world right now. And finally, "proposals to build primary storage facilities are collecting dust on the desks of government officials across the US".

I'm going to walk out to the tank and take a look tomorrow at how much I have left, and then on Monday I will call Franger and ask how much per gallon its going to PREMIUM cost me for a minimal delivery, because its...my fault. This summer though, at least one of our fire places gets unsealed and converted from ventless propane back to wood.

Exactly. That is what I was thinking. Duh...WHY shut a pipeline down in the MIDDLE of winter? A friend of mine said as well, that yes we did use more for drying this last fall but we hadnt for a few years and not to mention the milder than normal winters. Most of the corn here was down to about 17 to 18 percent at harvest, some slightly above 20 but not much. Oh and dont forget external_linkcare....lol just had to throw that in.

Was just reading the the article about what distillate was and they mentioned gasoline verses propane...."propane is cheaper per gallon, even today"...I wish that were true...lol.

Wind chill is caused by wind. No wind no WC factor. It doesn't change the ambient temp. It makes the ambient "feel like " something lower due to the wind blowing. It can make things freeze faster due to "forced convection", not harder. The ambient determines the actual temp.

Zone heating is what I use. Keep it warm where I am and the rest of the house can float. Also put on more clothes.
