Well actually a Taurus, as in Ford.
My daughter has a 2003 and the dash lights will go out now and then. All the exterior lights, headlights and turn signals work fine. Only the radio will stay lit and the signal indicators will light up steady. The dash dimmer will control the radio light and the dome light but has no effect on the instrument panel when this happens. I have checked all the fuses and they seem OK, any ideas what to look for? Thanks
 
I had a similar thing happen on an older Chevy truvk.The light switch was the problem.A new switch fixed it. Steve
 
Might need repair to the circuit board on the instrument cluster. Had it happen on a Plymouth Voyager. $325 later, repaired and lifetime warranty on the repaired cluster.
 
Take a short-handled nut-driver and make sure the hex-head screws that connect the Instrument Cluster circuit-board to the Dash tabs are tight. If they're loose you won't have a good ground and the lights will flicker or work intermittently.
 
Same thing happens on my f150. The wiring is too tight and the plugs come loose. Get into the steering column and check the plugs there, that's where my problems are.
 
When I was kid I had 50 Ford pickup I was tra eling on a winding road going home one late moonless night when all my lights went out. I couldn't see anything passed the windshield was going about 45 in a few seconds they popped back on. I learned that they were on a breaker rather than a fuse. Sure had to change my pants when I got home.

On the '55 Ford that I had, the headlights would go out unexpectedly when driving and in a few second come back on again. I spent many hours trying to find the problem by checking every wire and part.

The problem was still there when I sold that lemon.
 
I second the ground idea. I had a "62 Impala that the dash lights would come on every time I touched the brake. I traced it to a bad ground in my tail lights.
