I have a ‘64 or ‘65 model Ford 3000 and the steering gear broke , in getting it ready to replace we took dash and instrument shroud off removing the PTO cable and now after replacing steering gear the pto function is the only thing that we cannot get back, not sure what we are doing wrong , but Very Evidently it Is Something. Does anyone have or know where we can get a Good Exploded view picture of the Select o Speed transmission/PTO top end function so we can take cover off w/o messing something Else up to see why the pto isn’t working? I cannot tell from my I-T Shop Manuel . Thank You

You need a ford shop manual, correct for the serial number tractor, given its a select-o-speed, if this is a 3000, its likely a 1965-1975 model. I had a '64 4000 select-o-speed, which is the previous series and a different tractor.

I highly recommend 2 things, please post this question over on the Ford Forum, and try to locate someone here or elsewhere that is familiar with select-o-speed transmissions. I can't even venture a guess as to this problem, I would highly recommend to go no further with the repair until you have the correct manual and some help if can be found with this particular transmission, there are not many people left that know these. This is not a transmission for beginners, having the correct manual for it is certainly the best place to start.

Thank you Ben, I am there now looking through the parts diagrams, trying to see if I can tell what I did wrong. Tore it down and just unscrewed the pto cable out of the conduit, and just reversing the process just doesn't seem to make it work. Thank you again , I will hunt until I get it figured out.

Some of the guys over on the Ford section of this site have experience with those transmissions.
I would ask over there before I did anything else to make the situation worse. Probably just a simple adjustment.
