Certified Crop Advisors

Do any of you use them or have you in the past? What are/were your experiences with them? Do they provide a valuable resource for you?

The ones I'm familiar with seem to focus more upon row crops and not so much on forages. ARe there any independent advisors who focus on forages that are not commercially tied?

Thanks for any feedback.

It looks like you're in Mo., so this might help. I rely on the Univ. of Mo. Southwest Research Center for advice. They' always helpful, and glad to help. I also go to the Mt. Grove ag. reaearch facility. If you live near a Univ. of Mo. agricultural research facility, you might go there.

I actually live about 40 miles from the University of Missouri. I'm very familar with the Ag research facility in Mt. Vernon.....not so much with the one in Mt. Grove.....actually didn't know there was one there. I also am very familar with the Ag Research Facility in Linneus, Mo. I'm of the opinion that they are "influenced" by too much agri-business interests.

I suppose my question was more centered around "independent" Certified Crop Advisors. Are there many out there and have you ever used them.

My concern is that they mostly are "commercially tied" and only there to "sell" you something.

It would be nice to find one that only had "your" best interests in mind. Naturally I'd expect to pay him for his services of analysis, etc. But, I'd be free to go whereever I wanted for those products.

I think you can go to [certifiedcropadvisors.org]. There is a search option on that website , then choose the state you are interested. We have not used CCA's "here", but many are rowcrop oriented.
