Gear seized to input shaft, killed the engine, I have tried to remove the shaft as per the Oliver Service Manual, I have made tools and about every thing I can come up with to remove it, the next idea I have is to take a side grinder with a ZIZ Wheel and cut the shaft into or maybe the seized gear in half, if anyone has seen and solved this issue please let me know how and what you did.
Thank you,
Eric

I don't know much about this but a shaft can be repaired by building up with spray weld and machining and you can machine the cut off shaft piece out of a gear once you cut it out. It appears that you just have to find out which part is the cheapest and easier to replace.

I've had gears almost weld themselves onto a spline shaft & this is what I did: First, heat up the gear to a dull red with a torch, then as it cools apply copious amounts of "Blaster" penetrating oil where the shaft goes through the gear, and GENTLY beat on the face of the gear with a BRASS hammer until it slides off of the shaft. Works for me.

Good Luck!

Cut the gear off. It and the shaft both are junk. This is a common issue if the lube and filter is not kept up on maintenance. Even then it just happens some times.

My Oliver 1655 did it at about 1500 hours for no apparent reason. The new parts then were just under $750.

Post this down on the Oliver board. They may know of a good used set.
