We as most of you know are so far in the sticks that the ONLY choice we have for internet is satellite. That being said have used Wild Blue for several years and got by. Yesterday the guy came and changed everything out to their new high speed exceed service. If any of you are still on the old system you sure may want to look at the change. I have been reluctant to make any change from what some have reported on here but for me right now this sure is an improvement.

Keep pestering your phone company for DSL. Mine made it available one day without announcing it, much better than satellite.

When it works. My DSL is slow and unreliable. You need to be within about 3 miles of a switch, and we're well outside of that range.

JM welcome to Exede by ViaSat. Here is a link to their forum. I'm on there as Onemifarmer

My 4 months with Exede just sucked. CS sucked too. I got on to the forums and made noise and finally someone cared. They gave me a number for level2 support where they ordered a modem swap and it's been all good from there.

I had dsl for several years, slow didn't work sometimes. They said I was to far away to get a good signal.I switched to a wireless tower I can see from my house. Not much difference. If it's foggy it doesn't work.I'm paying for 2 mg,but rarely receive 1.I called time warner, but they say my house is to far from the road to get a good signal,250 feet. They say they can install a box near my house and connect to that, but it will cost me over a thousand bucks.

I had the wireless thing off the hospital tower a mile away. Had no complaints, but the same provider offered me DSL for another $2 a month. Can't see any big difference in speed, but no complaints either.

Never happen here 12 miles to the next house and I seriously doubt that if our land line went out today they would even repair it. I am on one side of the river , the world is on the other side.

I used dial up and then a local provider who transmitted from towers and then Hughes net, and finally Wildblue. Living where I do I am not served by cheaper companies, like you find in urban areas, but I won't trade that to live in an urban area. Ha!

The towers are the best deal but you have to be line of sight and that means just what it says. You have to actually see their antennas from where your antenna will be. If not, forget it.

I can't so I went to Hughes. Got tired of them and went to Wildblue with their new system. Really fast and so far satisfactory service. I'm paying $130ish per month to get the 25 Gb monthly allowance. Worked my way up as all the sites nowdays have all these moving things in the margins and all and it all eats up bandwidth as do videos. If you watch Youtube, you spend a ton of bits watching those videos.

But most of the spare time and other things, like online ordering things we need are done on the net so why not get something that works for you.
