is this the first you have tried it after sitting all winter? Assuming it has points, check them and make sure they are not corroded.

pull the dist. cap and make sure the rotor is turning. if it is then it's the points, condenser, coil, bad wires,or cap. but if rotor is not turning then it might be a busted cam shaft.if you have a hyd. pump on the tractor then it is very common for the cam shaft to brake

Thanks for your help everyone. I had pulled the distributor cap off but didn"t think to check if it will turn when I crank the engine.
I"ve run the tractor all winter and it"s been running super. Lined her up to lift a bucket of dirt with the loader, and it just outright stalled. Previously to stalling it had started as usual with just a touch of the start button.
I"ll check the rotor tomorrow. If its camshaft I"m guessing big job? Thanks again guys!

Check the spring loaded bakelite button inside the distributor cap. I had that wear down to the spring once on a 44.

Hi, I took distributor cap off and turned tractor over. The rotor did not turn. So the distributor shaft must be broken.

So I"ll have to see if I can find a distributor and or shaft. Wondering about the broken end and retrieving it. Drop the oil pan? It should be somewhere down in the crankcase.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Hi marloweg,
Just curious, I now know my rotor is not turning but not sure which shaft you think might be busted. Do you mean the main camshaft or the shaft that runs up to the distributor rotor.

What is the relation to the hydraulics? They both run off of the main camshaft via worm gears?
thanks for your time!
