john deere 4430

Someone was telling me that one of the most dependable tractors ever made by john Deere was a John Deere 4430 and I was curious what other people thought of the 4430 versus any other tractor john Deere tractor made?

Are you sure they didn't say it was a 4440.

I have a JD 4430 which I have had for about twenty yrs. It has given me good service--I bale hay and other things with it. Roy

Had an early 4430. It had soft final drives which john deere replaced free but didn't get rid of all the metal that went though the hydralic system. Cam gear and oil pump gear was soft and had to be replaced at my cost. My opinion the early ones were the worst tractor John Deere ever built at Waterloo.

I spent a bit of time in the seat of a 4430 and I really enjoyed driving it (quad range). Did a good job with the 12' field cultivator and the 8 row planter. I have no gripes with it.

4440 were referred to a the "Iron Horses". They were better than 4430's and IMHO the 50 & 55 series were the best.

Always thought they were kind of thirsty for fuel, and hard starting below 50 degrees. Nice enough tractor to run, especially with Quad-Range.
