Should have known better

I"m not positive but there is a good chance that I put some bad fuel in my Massey 245 diesel today. Long story on the fuel but need help with the fix. I"d guess either water or some kind of sludge. Had about 1/4 tank this AM so I added about 5 gallons. Started right up and I drove it a couple hundred feed. Got off to hook up implement (it was at idle) and it just quit. Would not restart. No smoke of any color coming out the exhaust. So if it is/was crap in the fuel what do I need to do to get running again. If it doesn"t sound like a bad fuel issue what are the other possibilities?

When's the last time the fuel filters were changed?First thing I would do is change the fuel filters and bleed the air. That should do the trick.'nother possibility is you put gasoline in it.When I worked at a diesel shop,we saw alot of diesels with gas in them. They would run a short time and die....

Well, replacing the fuel filter(s) and draining the fuel tank and putting in fresh fuel, then bleeding the fuel system would be a start.

Yep I would change the filters and fill the new filters with sea foam. You can add that straight or non-diluted right into the filters.

I got the wrong fuel tank one day and filled up a buddy's pickup with gas a few years back. He made it about six hundred feet before it died. Had to siphon out around twenty gallons of fuel with a quarter inch hose. Put some diesel back in it and a new filter and it started right up. He wouldn't let me near his fuel tank again. Never could figure out why.

Once when I was married my wife did that to my pickup. That isn't why we were divorced, but its part of the reason why. It was my first marriage, and we were young..

Check to petcock where the fuel comes out of the tank. If it is like the one on my 231 you will need to take it apart and clean it every couple of years. Mine gave me fits the first time I had a problem such as yours. A guy on the Massey board suggested it, problem solved.

This is what would happen to me. I would post a question on here about that same problem, and after I hit submit I would remember that I had shut the fuel off last time I ran it. LOL Jim
