A friend in S.E. Nebr., just told me about a problem his son has. He had his tractor parked in an open remote shed and found that the wiring had been chewed up, copper eaten through. Squirrels are being blamed. The plan is to haul it 40 miles to a dealer for repair. Comments please.

Porcupine?
Look for small quills under the tractor; they always seem to shed a few when they're working.

Used to work in GM dealership service dept. in a small town. We would often get vehicles in with the wiring chewed completely through my mice. My own vehicle fell victim one time. It"s a fact of life when living in the country.
Good Luck and God Bless

Hi it not the squirrels it is the pact rats Kansas and Nebr. are a bad place to leave a truck or tractor in a shed .

That could get costly ! Those new tractors have lots of wires. I have a 5105 and the wireing leaves alot to be desired. Harnesses not made nearly as good as the older tractors.
Might have to get an enclosed storage after you get it going so as not to happen again.

Yeah.

When I was with Ford, a lady brought her car in once because it was running rough. I popped the hood with the engine running and right away heard a whistling sound like a vacuum leak. I found the leak, put my thumb over it, and the engine settled down and idled smoothly.

I could then see where some wires had been nibbled on. The lady said, "I wonder if this has anything to do with the ground squirrels I saw playing in the driveway yesterday?"

I"ve had some sort of rodent chew up the electrical panel on a grain dryer. The amazing thing was that it still worked after I got done rewiring!

If it is late model tell him to get an estimate first. It could cost more than the tractor is worth.
