Snow is good sometimes

I took the skidloader out and got an eight row cultivator, and cut off a few pices, that I needed. When I got done I put the skidloader back in the barn. When I got off I seen smoke, was on fire. I started to pull the insolation that was burning by hand, wasn't doing so good, so I started it up and got out of the barn that has twenty tractors in it. Went back to pulling out the fire and stuffing in snowballs. I got the fire out after I packed snow around the fule tank. For some reason my nerves are shot and my wrist is a little raw and shinged hare. I still have a skidloader and barn.

sounds like you were lucky ,snow once saved my massey 165 i did the same thing started packin it with snow.

Sometimes a guy just has to keep on keeping on! Sounds like you just did. Go check it before you go to bed.

I hope you left it outside, far away from the barn for the night. Or until you diagnose the problem. Sounds like you were lucky.

I've heard of a few barn fires here in the winter where the farmer got busy with the blower while waiting for the FD to arrive.

Good save, you were very lucky. What insulation does it have i have a Bobcat 763 the only insulation type material is in the cab area?

Years ago on a very cold day,we had an Allis 185 that we had to get started, the glow plugs were not enough so I decided a big shot of ether would help.I removed te plug from the intake and sprayed in ether while Dad cranked it over.It was fine untill he stopped cranking and the glow plugs ignited all the ether hat missed going in the manifold,I had fire everywhere covering the whole engine.I started throwing snow at it to put it out. That was the only time in my life that I was glad for snow.LOL

Oh, you failed to follow the proper proceedures Mr. Aiken. You should have got out of the barn and called 911 and not put yourself in danger.
Well I can almost guarantee if you had followed these procedures you wouldn't have a barn.

A good friend had his barn catch fire and the barn had about 40 hogs in a back pen. Fire department came and he wanted to go around and let the hogs out of the rear of the barn. Fire department wouldn't let him and police had to put him in handcuffs. All the hogs burned up and he could have safely opened a rear door and let them out. How sad that must have been to have to listen to the hogs squealing as they burned up.
You did the right thing and saved your equipment and saved your barn. Quick thinking paid off.

It's good to hear you got it out. I've put two engine fires out with snow. Your heart is really pumping when it's over. Jim

Put am M farmall under a dead load for the first time one spring and before long all kinds of smoke from under the hood near the muffler. Its amazing how much dirt it takes to put out a birds nest. I don't think it ever really caught fire. I bet I had 25lbs of dirt on top of everything under the hood it was every where from the radiater to the belt pulley.

You might want to go read the fine print in the fire insurance on your barn,my insurance will not cover the loss if there is a gasoline or diesel engine in the barn when its catches fire.
