If that's a real pistol, not some kind of toy, I think that it would be good to put it into a plastic bag and take it to the police.

You never know if that might be the "last" piece of evidence that they need to solve a crime.

So, is it real?

Looks pretty real to me, Tom. I looked at that picture pretty carefully. Think your advice is good. Should take a few pictures before moving it though. Just to provide proof of where he got it from.

I love old trash dumps like that. Over the years I've found more nice green and blue glass jars, little, ornate 'vinegrette' containers, milk bottles, than I can count. I think the best thing I've found was a small toy car that looked like something that whould have come in a Cracker Jack box.
