I know some of you guys were in Vietnam, did you have any contact with the Red Cross women they called the Doughnut Dollies. Any stories you are willing to share? Thanks

They where on some of the major bases but not many that I was in and out of. I can't stand coffee so I never bothered to get a donut either. One of the guys in my unit would go crazy and go and eat all of them he could get. He usually was half sick when he wondered back. LOL

We where not back on the major bases very long. The brass tended to keep us more toward the smaller forward bases.

If I remember right, they put on a little program when we were back in base camp repairing and stocking back up, don't exactly remember what they did but had a little dog and pony show, don't remember any donuts or food though, gettin to be a long time ago!!

Funny how much better lookimg they can get in a few months. I never got near them, but from a distance they looked good. I was told that distance was a good thing however. It certianly was a good thing they were doing. They were only around the bigger base camps, and convoy guys were not allowed to get involved with the usual things that went on behind wire. When my colors came home, I was so drunk, I dont remember alot for about three days when I was transferd in country...heck, I could have married one, and me never known.

Yes , i ran into one girl that i knew but knew her cousin better . At first when i saw her i thought it was Susan but it was Diann her cousin but they could have been twins. . Susan was in my class in high school and Diann went to another highschool about five miles east of us . Ran into her fist part of june in 67 and saw her a couple times after . She was chasen some Capt. Plus she fell into the category of a female dog.

Google Vietnam Donut Dollies and you will see some pretty good pics of them.

Was too young for that fun. Nixon ended the war the same year I had to apply to the draft. I think my number was 42.

Emily was with 9th Inf, Div. assigned to Bearcat & Dong Tam, VN
They choppered the dollies to small firebases, to entertain the troops. They helped greatly to boost troop morale, God bless all of them for putting their lives in harms way to entertain a bunch guys living like rats in Indian country.
