Not all kids are problematic.
The 10 o'clock news on one local TV station featured a great-niece of ours named "Sophie".
At age 13, she's become a very competitive swimmer, competing with the best in her class and age group.
And she was born with only one leg. The rest of her body is normal, it's just that her right leg is only a stump that goes halfway to the knee. Our nephew and his wife adopted her from Bulgaria at age 2.
When she isn't swimming, she uses a prosthesis or crutches. As she grows, they need to make a new prosthesis every couple of years, so she uses crutches in between. Several years ago when she was on crutches, I saw her get into a serious foot race with one of her sisters across a parking lot, and she dang near won. I've never seen anyone move like that on crutches.
She's cute as a button, and you can just see an, "I'm going places and nothing will stop me" attitude in her outlook on life.
Compared to her life now, you can't help but wonder what kind of life would she be leading had she been left in an orphanage in Bulgaria.
