Hit the 400,000km mark last night.

Earlier this year after a wash and polish. 392,000 on it at that time.

It's a 1998 Camry 2.2L. Only left us stranded once after the original timing belt broke at 278,00km. Exhaust has been the biggest problem. Always finding somewhere new to leak. Very happy with it overall.

driven in a salt free environment? Bill from western new york, home of road salt and every chloride under the sun.

Excellent.

High mileage in Michigan is a real task. The road commission puts down so much salt, it piles up. Seriously. Then during the next storm when they plow it spreads it back out again. Saves times I guess.

My 1989 1 ton, had rusted out the brake lines and fuel lines. I eliminated the engine oil cooler since those were starting to leak. Power steering was not far behind.

Started life in Novo Scotia where they use salt and brine then came to Ontario where salt and brines are used like there's no tomorrow. Never seen a vehicle that's stayed this rust free. There are two rust spots on it, one from a windshield seal leak and one dent that has surface rust.

Son has a '93 with the 2.2L. Leaks oil and trany
fluid so bad we nicknamed it the "exxon valdez"!
Wife was driving it last summer when a head gasket
blew. Got it so hot, it died. I let it cool, drove
it home, had a new head gasket put on,has run like
a sewing machine ever since. Pretty tough motor.

That's why they recommend replacing the timing belt every 90,000 miles.

I hope it wasn't an "interference" engine.

You failed to mention, farmer boy, that those are kilometres, not miles. For our American friends, that 400,000 km is equal to about 244,000 miles.

Actually I think he [u:049113e8ee]did[/u:049113e8ee] mention that it was kilometers

It was bought at 206,xxx from a small garage that sold quite a few cars. He said it had a new belt but when it failed at 278,000, it was sort of obvious it hadn't been.
