Stuck engine

Starting of rehab of 550 utility gas that sat outside about 4-5 yrs not started and engine has seized. Want to pour some product in the cylinders and let it soak for several days. What would you guys suggest. Engine had rain cap on exhaust.

Before you spend any money on snake medicine remove all plugs then get a lite and look in the hole you can see the cycl walls and if they are rusted just remove head and tear down engine cause if they are rusted aint any snake oil going to unstick them. Ive done a bunch and thats the first thing i do. Even looking at the plugs can tell you a bunch.

Gene said it best but if there is no water in the cylinders and it is just "dry stuck" a lot of people use Automatic transmission fluid. or ATF and Acetone mixed 50/50 in the cylinders to help unstick them.

Most of the tractor I buy have stuck engine or did have stuck engines in them till I got them. I fill them with ATF being sure to put the plugs back in. I then after a few days set a 12 volt battery in them and use short fast taps on the starter to see if the engine will move any. If it does I pull the plugs and try some more and most of the time I have had good luck doing it that way. Out of more then 20 all but 2 or 3 did not free you

I've used just plain diesel in cylinder and let soak for a couple days. With bars cheater pipes, and an occasional 36" pipe wrench usually got them unstuck.

Hi Rich ,, what is the advantage to p;utting the plugs back in ?/ I suppose to keep insects and bugs out ??? ,,i have a DC that has atf in it all summer in the barn with plugs out,,still seems stuck , but havent got aroud to workingg with it ... ,not tried it yet, but if it is stil stuck ,,,, this is my next step,,. i have heard of good success with threading a pipe fittin in the plug hole and hooking the remote s off the tractor hydraulics ,, and bumping the lever at idle

With most stuck Cases, it is the valve gear that is stuck.

On your DC, try removing the tappet cover, then test each valve in turn. Try your ATF or any penetrating oil on stuck valves. With a bit of hammering you will free them.

Sound advice gene.
I would add,if you hit the starter on an engine with liquid filled cylinders and spark plugs in place,it can bend/break a rod because liquid does not compress. I suggest to never leave plugs in while attempting to rotate engine because in addition to risk of destroying a rod or worse, why make it harder than nessary to turn the enginge against compression. Rather than starter or pipe wrenchs and cheater bars, rock the tractor while in gear. It's fairly easy to wiggle rotating assembly by grabing a rear tire tread.

I"ve tried all kinds of things, Now I use
nothing but Rifle Bore Cleaner. I know it
works........

You put the plugs back in so as to keep dirt water etc out of the cylinders and also when you hit the starter if is has started to free up the hyd effect forces the ATF down and past the rings so it works that much better if it does in fact move a tad bit

Can not agree with you on this one and I have BTDT many many many times. Yes the hyd effect will stop the engine from spinning over but the starter does not have enough torque to hurt parts when the cylinders are full due to the fact it never gets the engine spinning over fast enough to cause problems. Yes if it has a stuck valve you can bend a push rod but that is ALL that I have ever had happen and I do many many many stuck engines and I like to buy them that way because I get them very cheap. As I have said more then once I have done well over 20 stuck ones and only 2 or 3 did not free up
