What did Gene Autry do before he was "Back In The Saddle".

And why did he leave the saddle in the first place?

whooping up on a bad guy! he had to leave the saddle, dont you remember him having to chase the cowardly bad guy down and haveing to jump on him from his horse? wouldnt be right just to shoot him in the back,,,,that might have been the easy way,but it wasnt the cowboy way. of course he may have been visiting a damsel in distress also.If I counted right, he had 3,426 girls he rode off with. i figured he learned how to sing while riding off into the sunset after visiting the settlers daughter.

That reminds me of once when I returned to the States after being deployed to the Middle East aboard an aircraft carrier.

We pulled into the carrier's home port of Mayport, Florida. Crew and troops were all in formation on the flight deck. The ship's band was playing. The pier was lined with wives and girlfriends.

Just as the tugs nudged the carrier against the pier, the band cut loose with "Back In The Saddle Again".

LOL I worked with a couple of Marines while teaching tank tactics at Ft Knox. On SSG toldm me that I couldn't call a Marine a jar head, Said I had to call em pin heads cause you can put something in a jar.........

Hope you know this is all in good fun!

If I understand your question, Gene Autry played baseball before Hollywood called. He left the saddle to go to WWII; pilot, I think. Roy Rogers was happy to step up as the new western matinee idol with Gene out of the way.

Should have googled first: wrong about baseball, he was a telegraph operator. Also, was in Army Air Force, not pilot.
