OT a question for anyone

A coupe months ago we bought a 207 GMC suv. The light on dash came on and says service air bags, Does anyone know what that means? Thanks in advance. James

Probably means the car"s computer is doing a continuity check on the air-bag circuit, and coming up open. I wouldn"t risk driving the car any more than necessary. Chance the airbag will not go off in a crash.

A dealer or auto electric shop with a appropriate scanner can probably diagnose theroblem quickly. (Not one of those comsumer grade reader/eraser.)

Happened on my 2004 Silverado a few years ago. The wire running down the steering column broke. Also took out the cruise control and all the control buttons for the radio etc in the steering wheel. $800 and some change.

Check the electrical connections under the seats. Happened to my 2004 Silveraldo. I had my trailer hitch insert stored under the passenger seat and must have rolled around and disconnected the coupler. It was under warranty at the time so I took it to the dealer. Got a lecture not to store anything under the seat anymore.

In short, as others have said, you really need to have someone plug in with a scan tool.

There are multiple DTCs (Diagnostic trouble codes) that could trigger that light, and without knowing which DTC, it would be a guess at best.

A lot of newer vehicles will have the light come on at certain service intervals. Most times you have take it to the dealer to have the computer reset to get rid of it.

That means you need to add more air before one goes flat. Ain't nothin' meaner to change than a flat airbag. Sorry, I just had to say that.

Put a scan tool on it and find more info. Sometimes one impact sensor will make contact from a jolt. Darn fool kid of mine did that field bombing with my truck
