spending the night away from home. Dubuque IA

Im here for the annual American Water Works Association conference. Sitting in the motel room alone and bored as heck! Probably eat downstairs and then watch the debate tonight. BORED

I was going to suggest just going out for a walk, after dark. That usually generates some excitement in most major cities, although maybe not the type you're looking for. But we're talking Dubuque, Iowa- well, maybe not. . .

That"s JDSeller"s neck of the woods. Maybe he will chime in and give you some ideas.

Good Luck, I have a Love/Hate relationship with conferences. Good networking/educational opportunities (most of the time), hate being away from my bed and family.

Good Luck,

Kirk

Spent a lot of nights on the road in my working life. That's why I usually took a laptop and a bunch of gage designs(I was alawys behind on 'em) with me. Working alone in a hotel room was better than drinking alone in a hotel bar.

Dubuque is a nice town, spent my first 40 years about 30 miles east of there and used to go there alot. My wife used to work there. Have not been there much in the last 20 years but their always building something new.

Are you staying at the Hotel Julien? Al Capone spent a lot of nights there when it got too hot for him in Chicago. His bodyguards would be at the windows with binoculars watching the bridge for Illinois troopers coming into Iowa. I think Capone owned a share of the Hotel. There are always casinos to go to by the river. The old Star Brewery and the Shot Tower are down by the Hotel Julien. There is a brew pub in the old Star Brewery.

One of my son's lives in Dubuque. He called me Sunday and told me he was at a bar in the area and heard the gunfire. I guess a black guy shot another black guy....something about a drug deal gone bad. When we were there this summer he took us out to the river to where Julien Dubuque is buried. We had a good time in Dubuque.

Justin: I just got home around 8:30 PM. Don't know which hotel you are staying at but the casino has a cheap good buffet. I don't gamble but do go there to eat a few times each year. As far as night life there is little to do in town. Especially a Monday night. There are several nice pubs and theme bars within a few blocks of the Julian Hotel. River City Beefstro Sports Bar & Grill is a nice one, it is on Main street. There are two good ones on north Main but I would not recommend someone from out of town trying to drive there. You have to go up to where Central Ave. splits into two one way streets and come back south to get to them. Central street is where the trouble happens in Dubuque.

Im staying in the holiday inn. I ate in the motel restaurant. The baseball game isnt looking good for the cardnials and the debate is about as boring as painting. LOL
