Took a steer and 2 heifer calves to sale barn Thur. Didnt stay for sale received check today about fell over. 265 lb steer born 7-13 brought $2 per pound sold for $530. Heifer twins born 6-30 weight was 520 lb pair brought $1.92.5 lb sold for $1001. I did very well.

Mark,

Those seem like very good prices. I've never sold any calves that were that small. I always hold my calves until they are seven months old and typically weigh 500 - 600 pounds.

The most recent calves that I sold brought about $1.20 per pound.

Are your calves born on your farm, or do you buy them from off the farm?

Tom they were born here I actually watched the heifers being born. I sold both mothers also Thursday, now have no cows. Decided with drought not to back breed because of hay price/availability plus grain prices this year. Only a little hobby farmer but my little heard meant a lot to me, glad they presented well. Angus calves

LAst bunch I took over in the 5-600# range brought $176 a couple of months ago. I just sold some 550# heifers, private sale, for $150 about two weeks ago. Preconditioned angus.

Donjr,

Those are very good prices also. My calves are all black Angus from all-black grade cattle and a registered bull. I vaccinate them and then wean them at 6 months. They're off their mommas and onto feed-trough cattle feed plus pasture when I sell them at 7 months.

Prices seem to be somewhat lower here in southern Middle Tennessee. I have about five calves that I need to wean very soon, so I guess I'll see what they're bringing one month from now.
