J.D. 410 round baler

Looking at a John Deere 410 round baler. Are they closed or open throat? Do they do a good job or should I stay away from it. Keith

If the JD410 is a smaller version of the JD510, then it is a closed throat baler.

I used to own a JD510,... never again!

Old Iron is correct they are closed throat. You'd be light years ahead to find a JD 430 rd baler

JD 410 and 510 balers make good boat anchors. Any other JD round baler is a good baler.

Well lets just say you will never have much moldy hay baling with a JD 410/510. Want to know why?? If mouse takes a leak in the field the baler will plug up!!!! LOL They are a closed throat balers with a big rubber coated compression roller. They where miserable to bale with. They hay had to be bone dry to bale and even then you had problems. I would not recommend one to anyone.

I rolled about 40-45 rolls with a borrowed one a few years ago; I guess I was lucky; it worked perfect! I even rolled some soy beans for hay.

If it worked perfect, then your hay wasn't even a "bit green", or the hay would have wrapped up on the rollers and plugged the baler solid.

and yes, you were "lucky",... if you didn't get to enjoy the experience of unplugging a closed throat baler. LOL

Thanks to all who replied. I thought they were closed throat, but wasn't sure. I had 1 closed throat & sure don't want another. That saves me the time of going to look at itKeith
