Front Steps

I am tired of figuring out whether to mount from the front or rear on the tractor. I want to put front steps on my MH44 and Farmall H.

Anyone got ideas?

Don't know about the 44 but I always thought my H has sort of steps built into it. I usually approach the right rear and put my left foot on the horseshoe drawbar, my right foot on top of the axle and then swing my left foot over the seat area and sit down. What kind of steps will work for your tractor will depend partly on whether you have fenders, an add-on hitch or other things that might be in the way.

Well see again a good reason you should have come down this year you could have seen the steps I have on my Oliver Super 88 and used that as a pattern to make some. They are a simple sort of clamp on step that works real well

Trade them off for two cylinder Deeres. They make a front step for them. .........Well, you asked for ideas.

My dad had a '34 D. I sure wouldn't want to try to climb the front of it , running or not.

Yea, I don't like climbing on from that side because it's too easy to kick the parking brake off. Plus you always mount the horse from its left side...

No, I'm right handed. I get on from that side because I often carry a chain saw on the left rear corner of the deck and it is a pain to step over. It is a Stihl MS 440 with a 20" bar and I stick the bar under the back of the seat support and tie the handle of the saw around the seat base with a rubber bungee strap. This is the handiest way I have yet found to carry the saw on the tractor. When the saw is not there it is equally easy to mount from the left except that the PTO handle was there until I moved it to the center bolt a month or two ago. I just put a 3 point hitch on the H this summer and had to move the handle because it was in the way. It is not quite so easy to reach now, but it is not too bad.

On the Farmall 400 I had, I made a step and mounted it in front of the left axle housing, I don't have the tractor anymore or I would post a picture. Only real reason I mounted it in front of the axle, was because of the Saginaw 3pt.

On my wife's JD 60, I threw a step together with about 10 minutes of welding, and bolted it to the left side of the draw bar. It ain't pretty but she's happy with it.

I just spent over a half hour getting these three pix to post...(two would work, not three) RATS! ..some steps I"ve added over the years, and in regard to the JD tractor....that was done over 30 years ago...poor pic but was a good addition adding the 4 inch channel that reinforced the loader frame (broke nothing since....not like before!)...and provided a good step up...as I got older and got mobility issues I added a lower step to that frame....both sides..just a drop down step..3 pieces of steel in a "U", bolted to the channel. Now nothing is more than a 12 inch step anymore. Same with the combine, front and back. Same with the other field tractors. You talk about an H? Doesn"t that have a square axle, and cultivator mounting bolts? Easy to attach to either one. Easy on the back.....wrap a steel frame to the front. Maybe the same on the Massey 44?
