I have never seen this before.

There were at least three Centaur's at the Oakley, Mi show two weekends ago. I don't know much about them other than there are highway mowers and farm tractors. The ones at the show were all small, less than 20 hp I believe.

Ahh ok. I have never heard of them. I was wondering if anyone knew about them. Thanks. BTW I don't know the seller I was just curious about it.

According to the tag it is a Centaur manufactured by the Le Roi company. I don't know just when they started or ceased to manufacture tractors. I just Googled "Centaur Farm Tractors" and got a web site concerning them. I know when I was a kid in the 1940s there was an old man drove a Centaur tractor to town every Saturday. I asked Dad why and he said it was because the man didn't have a driver's license and it was not required to drive a tractor. I don't think there are that many still around and that one looks to have possibilities for restoration.

I did the Google search too. Got a little history. Seems like a neat little tractor. Wonder if it has the air compressor some of them have? That would be sweet.

To the best of my recollection, the one I mentioned was the only one that I ever saw in operation. At the time I was too young to know much about how one was equipped. I just knew that it was a curiosity that the old man drove a tractor down town every Saturday. I wouldn't mind having one though.

I had one . They were used by the road commision for mowing road sides. They had a mid mount sickle mower. Hi gear WAS CRAZY fast. Well over 20mph,and on mine you set off the very back. I think it's a KA model.

Here's what they look like all dolled up

There is a more modern,"Styled" one shows up at
the "Rock river thersheree"at Edgerton Wisconsin.
It has more rounded lines, and for engine, has
the 201 cubic inch overhead valve 4 cylinder,
made for LeRoi by Allis Chalmers,(WC heritage).
(possibly the 226 WD engine, they look the same) Those Allis built LeRoi"s have parts interchangeability with AC, so parts should not
be hard to find.

We have one at work to work on this winter. It has the smaller overhead valve engine not the flathead as in your nice picture. Greenwich Ohio was also maybe a home (manufacture- assemble) for some of those.

They used those tractors here in MD in the 1950's for mowing the roadsides. They had a sicklebar mower also had hydraulics. They were also very fast on the highway. We should've had one on the farm for mowing hay. I told my late dad to get rid of the horses and mules. When my brother and I entered the military during the Korean War he had to give up farming. Hal

I have one like that in about the same condition, stuck engine and flat tires.
It has the side mower with an airlift like some of the small Farmalls.

we used one for years at the stockyards that had a large air compressor mounted on it.seemed to be a good sturdy built tractor. most of the ones ive seen have been used in more of a industrial type setting.as i recall the one i used had the compressor running off engine ,and no pto.

Just talked to the guy. It looks like an SC Case. He doesn't know and just wants it gone. He thinks it is a valueable collectors item. I told him it was worth about $360 for scrap and he should look for an offer in that range.

I love the way he stresses that it will "need moved." Really? Guess I've never heard of buying a tractor and not moving it. . .

Did the LeRoi compressors use two cylinders of the engine to do the compressing, or did a conventional engine run a separate unit?

its been forty five years at least, but as i recall the one i used had a seperate compressor.it could have used the engine though.tank was about 100 gallon or so hung off side of tractor,i remember thinking at the time how i would like to use it on the farm, and see how it pulled.little short coupled thing sure was handy for turning up and down those aisleways about eight ft wide.

The compressor model I saw had two over sized cylinders on it, it was plane to see the block was a lot bigger on the two rear cylinders.

One sold at Auction here in Western Wisconsin,
about a year ago. Was in fair condition, engine
turned over, Had a straight 6 cylinder engine,
4 of the cylinders for engine, 2 for air compressor. I stopped bidding at $1000, it sold
for about $1650 !
