Kansas man killed after tractor flipped over

Reports are a day after the world record a Kansas man was killed when his tractor flipped over on him while trying to load it. That's all I've heard so far...tragic.

And in other news;
For the year of 2011 there were 382 fatalities on Kansas highways.
And in 2010 there were 100 murders in Kansas.
Interesting that I never heard about any of those but I did hear about one of maybe a couple of people who were killed on a tractor.

Scares me after shows where you seen somebody
taking a run at the trailer to slip and slide their
steel wheeled tractor up the ramp.
Two ramps with a narrow front tractor isn't a
good idea either.
Try to suggest a winch on the front of the
trailer and the idea is not welcome.

Shows have a bunch of people loading and unloading tractors that aren't used to doing it.I bought a hydraulic tilt bed trailer a couple years ago does away with the ramps.

I believe that the important thing to remember here is that these people are neither boulder heads, nor people not used to what they are doing, nor people doing something tricky. They are people like you and me who suddenly cross the line due to something unforeseen happening, from having a wide margin of safety to no margin. I would feel safe observing that the vast majority hurt or killed in situations like these also had commented many times about unsafe practices of others. There is a constant need for all of us to keep thinking about our plans and procedures, and safety of our equipment.

It's a number game.... That guy just happened to be loading his tractor when the big guy pulled his ticket..... We've all done stupid things that shoulda killed us and are still here namecalling. I'm a walkin miracle as far as that goes

(quoted from post at 05:28:52 08/27/12) So there is no need to be careful or use safety
equipment because then your number is up, it"s up?

Reminds me of a story about a guy that was stuck on a roof in a rising flood.... refused 3 offers for help saying the lord would provide for his safety... he drowned and got to the bighouse and asked the lord "why didn't you take care of me?".... Big guy said, I sent you 3 boats, what more did you want????"

You decide if you want to use safety equipment and caution for yourself.... I will unless I forget....

So Dave if utilizing your NUMBERS theory if you stand between the 2 tracks of a railroad and the train is coming if if it stops before it gets to you your number wasn't up??

The likelihood of your number being pulled is closely related to the amount of common sense you use.... sometimes a species has to be culled a little....

You're one to chastise me about common sense!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greensburg Indiana had a tractor show a week ago. A man was loading after the show, tractor slipped, he went off the tractor and hit his head on the ground. He died from head injuries. From what I heard from someone actually at the scene, tractor did not fall on him. Time and unforseen occurrences befall us all at times.

Personally, I like the idea of using a winch to load. Too many instances of this happening for me.

The "your number is called" and all of the other myths worked pretty well until mass transit and instant news became available.
If the "your number is called" is true, then next time you are on an airplane, better hope NO ONE on that flight has their number come up.

don't take everything personal.you'll get yourself all worked up and cause your ankles to swell or sumpin..........

Little girl maybe 9 or so was on a horse being led to the riding circle, had a helmet, kevlar (?) vest, etc...... she turned to see if her mom was watching, the horse jerked a little, she lost her balance and fell... Whole place was in order except for a poop hook (?) someone left laying. Hit just the right angle to miss the neck of the vest and the helmet and stuck in her temple/forehead.... Graveyard dead...... number or careless???????? She or someone had the common sense to use the equipment... just happened...

"When your number is up, it"s up" maybe even
valid on the battle field given the conditions.
A non combat loading of a tractor at a show
should be safer than dodging 7.62x39 slugs, IUD"s,
RPG"s, mortar/artillery fire, mines, friendly fire.
Or having somebody driving combat equipment take
evasive maneuvers and run over some of his own
troops.

How often do you see multiple folks cashing in on lottery numbers????????????
Had two uncles in a car wreck... Hit the end of a cement bridge and wiped out the passenger side of the vehicle. One driving died, one on the passenger side is still around with a scar on his forehead.....

That's prolly how you got here   The number game.... your mom's IUD failed at just the right time and your arrogant little squiggly slipped thru.......

Gonna hafta start callin you "Oops" now

Perhaps if at established prominant show grounds we designed loading dox in a L -shape , whereas the operator had a level approach on one side and the end of the trailer,,would that be a little safer? ,especially for the guys that angle haul multiple tricycle tractors wheel to wheel, shoulder to nose , utilizing all their deck space ... , SADLY ,, THE MOST DANGEROUS PART OF transporting is the loadin and unloadin ,, OLD Men , and Antique equipment get a little cantankerous , clutches stick ,kill switches fail ,or are nonexistant , brakes grab , or not at all ,ramps are to steep to be safe for everyone that is foolproof , dormant gasser show tractors dont always run perfect , and in foolish exasperation ,, i have seen some operators take risks to protect their own honor to avoid asking for help ...

Don"t mean to make light of an unfortunate incident, but sometimes commas are important- the way it"s written, sounds like the Deputy Coroner inflicted the blunt force trauma.

Sorry davey
Unlike you I don't have any Tonka toys nor do I want to test your numbers theory. But your welcome to try your numbers theory.
