TRACTOR battery so it's ok to ask. Have 4 yr old batt in smta bought earlier this year. put brushes in starter and checked it out Battery has 6. 4 volts static Hit starter just grunt and voltage goes down to one volt. Put on trickle pulse desulfating charger. had on for 2 days now plan on 2 more. Do you folks think I am wasting time or possibly will battery work out. Tractor is for prade and fun only, started maybe once a month. George I did purchase 59 Edsel at Sullivan auction today.

Can't hurt to try but go adding acid or other things if it come out in a couple days your in luck else it's scrap.

if you been trickle charging it for 2 days and it wont start the tractor it is now trade in material. do a load test on it to make sure its toast.

Bill,
I was going to loan you my batteryminder charger, but it's only a 12v, won't work.

I've had very limited success using the batteryminder desulfating dead batteries. Never played with a 6v, except golf carts.

Do you have 2 6v batteries? If so, I'll loan you my batteryminder, it has a 2,4,&8 amp scale, 12v. Put the 2 6v in series and make 12v. Manufactor says it may take up to 2 month's to desulfate. Personally I wished I had spent $110 on batteries instead of the batteryminder charger.

Saw the pic you sent of your Edsel. Nice looking black ride. The one I told you about, that got away, was pink.

I have had some limited sucess using a mechanical timer, on for 15 minutes and off for 15 minutes, got it from menards, and used a smart charger. However, I'm not sure if they make a smart charger for 6v.

I think I may have a manual 6v, if you don't.

With all your money, stimulate the economy and go buy a 6v.

LOL

There is a 6&12volt smart charger called a genius, It is made by NOCO and is sold on amazon ,com. It has a reg and cold charge mode for 6 and 12v and does do the desulphation thing also. Price is about $60,00 + shipping. I got one and am pleased with it's performance.

Walt,
I haven't had any luck adding acid to a sick battery. Perhaps others have.

The simple way I look at lead acid batteries is you started out with acid and ended up with water. To bring the battery back from the dead, you need to perform a miracle, turn water into acid. The white crap on the battery's plates has hardened and doesn't want to make wine like it should when you recharge it. So if you can see the white sulfates/sulfides/SOx's, your battery will never come up to it's full CCA.

The charger I bought claims that by using the right frequency and wave pattern, it will desulfate the battery over a 2 month period. To date, only one battery came back, but not all the way. If your battery is low, you need to add distilled water and remove the sulfates by charging.

The key to battery like is not to discharge it all the way, keep it fully charged, and perhaps use a fancy chargers to clean the plates, desulfate, before the battery has a heart attack and dies.

That's just my simple view of batteries.

Mr. Wilson, hope your brother Jim bypass works out well.

Battery class is over, class dismissed.

This is just my opinion and not the opinion of TY or all YT's members. Tried to make this sound like I'm handing out a legal opinion:) Making a joke, OK.
