3910 cooling update

Maybe I asked a stupid question, maybe I should have searched the archives, maybe I'm not one of the cool guys on here. Seems like it was a straight forward question that others could have benefited from. In the absence of any answers on cleaning out the cooling system on the 3910, I shall fill the system with muriatic acid for a few weeks to eliminate any iron deposits and refill with the proper coolant.... ;)

An unanswered question has nothing to do with whether you're cool or not. The right person just didn't see it. We all have unanswered questions at times.

Regarding the muriatic acid, I'd wait for confirmation before doing it. That's some powerful stuff.

what was the reason for internal cleaning,i didn"t see original post, be careful with the acid you might cause some real damage to the cooling system not to mention gaskets and seals, not saying it won"t work but have never heard of using muriatic acid to flush a cooling system

I didn't see your original post, but I clean cooling systems with vinegar.
Mix it with water, pour it in, let it set a day or two, flush it out both directions, repeat until it comes out clear.
Cheap, easy and effective.

Acetic acid (vinegar) is what I think I'd heard before, not
muriatic acid, thanks for the input. I re-read my post, i came off
as a jerk, guess I have had a hard day,,thanks for the help,
guys.

I"m with other on useing muriatic acid dont do it,straight it will dissolve aluminum don"t ask how I know,I would go with the vinegar

JBMac: Sorry that no one answered your original post. I did read it but I had not been on here for a while and I just scanned it fast. I did not catch that you where needing help in the posting.

Here is link to a product I have been using for the last several years. I have had great luck with it. Restore and Restore Plus. They work just a little differently. So read the chart and decide which is the one you need. I think you have rust and scale than Restore Plus is the one you need. I don't think you have a silicone gel issue, which is what Restore is better for.

After you get the block flushed buy a good heavy duty anti-freeze. NOT the high silicone stuff for newer cars. You need the heavy duty product for diesels engines. Most better parts stores carry it. Your national chains may not carry it or even know what you are asking about.

Just use one of several phosphoric acid products that are on the market specifically for cleaning cooling systems. Prestone, Napa, NH and various others all have something with a name similar to 'Fast Flush'. I find it works good for removing most crap from the system. You leave it in for half an hour or so as directed by the product label and then flush, flush, flush until the suds are gone.
Whatever you use I would not leave it in there for weeks...

I wouldn"t leave it in that long! I used a half cup of acid rinse such is used by dairy farmers to clean bulk milk lines. Ran it for a couple hours - flushed several times. Changed water after every use for about six uses...
I would suggest a commercial radiator flsh such as mentioned by others.
