#1 on waukesha distributor

i got a michigan loader with a 6 cyclinder waukesha 190 motor in it.. tuned it up and it runs like the spark plug wires are wrong checked firing order and it"s right but not sure which is #1 on dist if #1. cyclinder is at top , will rotor point to #1?, didn"t have new dist cap, but it looks good.. any help appreciated thanks jim

"if #1. cyclinder is at top , will rotor point to #1?, "

yes if #1 cyl is at the top on the compression stroke, No if it is at TDC on the exhaust stroke, where the rotor will be 180 degrees out from #1 cyl.
Cover #1 plug hole with your thumb while turning the engine over. When you feel pressure, the piston is comming up on the compression stroke.

Tuneup should not change the roter pointing at the number one wire. You are counting number one as the cylinder closest to the fan,not the one closest to the front of the loader.

Jim,

Contrary to popular belief, it makes no
difference which port on the distributor is
# 1 .It only makes a difference on some late
model cars where the wire length is critical.

Bar the engine to top dead center #1,see where
the rotor is pointing ,that is # 1 port, place
the rest of the wires in proper sequence , done.
Old engines never had a required position for
#1 wire as long as it is in time.

Let the BS begin , I have been thru this
argument so many times that I'm tired of it.
Have to so all the new mechanics that it makes
no difference where you put #1 as long as it is
at the rotor.

All depends on where it was put in at. If it has been pulled over the years it could be any one of the 6 nipples since you can turn it a full 360 so any one can be #1

hi thanks it runs bad unless u have it under a load and then it runs good.sounds great.i"ve tried adjusting the carb and it needs a lot of gas.. someone put a electric fuel pump on it and a valve at carb.. which needs to be set at the highest.. it runs clean and doesn"t blow smoke it has 110 lbs compression.. got any ideas what might be wrong...

jim, with the engine cool, start it and spray a little starting fluid near the the head and intake and also where the carb bolts on, if the engine revs up or changes it's sound it most likely has a leak. you can get gaskets from korves oliver. hope this helps, chuck

thanks chuck that makes sense.. i have it in moubtains about 200 miles away i wil go there in 10 days or so and i will try that.. where is korves tractor??are they online? thanks jim
