OT Streaked head turtles

Anybody tried eating streaked head turtles. I am not sure of the proper name for them but they have yellow stripes on thier head. I have not seen softshells but there are plenty of the streaked heads.

I guess we'll add this to the 'pets or meat' tractor talk animals. I believe these are called 'red eared turtles' native to the southeast US, and are for sale in most pet shops. It takes one about 60 years to get as big as a plate. So chew it slow.... makes a nice side dish to London broiled palamino and tariyaki poodle on a stick

I did some more searching and found out they are called "painted turtle". You can't even fish for the turtles eating your bait. Looking to thin the herd. I would rather eat turtle than fish anyway.

build some turtle traps...rectangle of 4" sewer pipe and 90's...hardware cloth on the bottom...1x6 treated off each side for a ramp...turtle crawls up ramp, falls in pond in middle...cant get out.

I was in Hawaii back in the late '60's working and we were there for quite awhile. The locals took us in as grandsons and all and operated a small cafe where we ate.

One day they had sea turtle on the menu and I tried it. Was not chicken, nor rabbit, but somewhere in-between.

Down here and over in the South, soft shell turtle is quite popular. Soft shells, for those interested, are the ones with the light green, sort of flat shell (not really a shell) with the pointed noise like a hog has, but obviously a lot smaller.

I have the striped ones in my pool but never thought about eating them. Just make good target practice and we have no restrictions here on "hunting" turtles, cept you have to have a state hunting license to shoot turtles in your own pool, on your own property.....fishing, no license, huntin license required except for a very few critters.
