Redneck tire repair

With all the talk of redneck ways, I thought I would show my tire repair. I ran this tire about 6 years with the tube showing in the hole. Was at the tire shop one day and asked if I could bring it in for a boot. The parts truck was there and the driver had a 10 by 10 inch boot. He said before we put the boot in to sew up the tire with something to keep it from spreading. Drilled holes and used an old boot lace. Glued in the boot and then glued a "hogback" boot that went bead to bead. Been holding great for a year pulling a sub soiler and 7 foot disk.
It is on a 51 VAC Case

Ralph, I used to have to replace boot laces at least once a year also. Was at a steam engine show in Somerset VA a few years ago and an old vender had some boot laces he said were military issue for 50 cents a pair. Bought a couple pair. Show no wear after 3 years. Every time we are there in Sept, I look for him but he has not been back.

Casecollector, That old VAC sure ain't tired. She is a real worker. I don't believe in painting a hard working tractor just to see it get all dirty again.
Last one I restored one to mint condition it just sat in the shop under a cloth. Sold it rather than take up good space all the time.

Thanks, Richard. Ft Sill is not too far and there are a couple of surplus stores in Lawton, OK as well. Will check there next time I am in town....

Ralph, We have friends in Lawton and Cache. Send me an email if you will. My email is open. Toured some of Ft Sill years ago when visiting.
Could not get used to the practice shelling at night.
