My birthday is this week and I was born in 1947. Got to thinking what my parents had back than. No tv, laptop, ipod, telephone cell phone internet, crack, meth,carjackings,indoor plumbning,microwave or electric stove.
But they did have: Dogs, cats,chickens,cows,hogs, workhorses,gardens,fresh eggs,milk time to visit and help others, whipped our behinds, and belived in God. What happened?
 
In 1947 we didn't even have electricity in our neighborhood. (rural neighborhood) Our "next door" neighbor was half mile away. But we did have values that were passed down from generation to generation. Somewhere down the line big business got in on the act and convinced everyone that if you don't have the latest and greatest you ain't s---t. So now (almost) everyone is over their heads in credit card debt. because they gotta go wait in line to get the newest electronic gadget that made the one that they bought last week obsolete.
 
Our family didn't get a TV untill about 56 or 57. I still don't use a ipod or such and have text blocked out on my very most basic cell phone. The computer internet is the most electronic technical I can get. I can figure out most anything mechanical, no matter how complicated, but computer techonology has me baffled.
