stopped in to pass out some apples saturday,saw my friend who has been having trouble with his legs, He was tired ,so his daughter set up the chair for him and she was lifting the wood for him, I wonder if my daughter would do the same for me? Maybe,if it got cold enough in the house ! lol

Larry, how did you get my picture? Only difference is my son feeds the wood to our splitter. The gentleman and I must have the same problems.TIRED and BAD LEGS!!What contact I've had from you and your wife. I can say with all CERTAINTY. your family wood do the wood chore for you to keep you warm. REGARDS LOU.

It's nice to see family working together. I'd be nervous to see someone wearing sneakers to do that job. I dropped a firewood log on my toe while wearing rubber wellington boots a few years ago and after 8 months I gave up and went to the doctor-he said it was the most ingrown toenail he had ever seen.

Hay Larry;
I welded a 3PT hookup on my splitter for easy transport and to raise it up so I don't have to bend over. If you look closely at the pic, you will see that there is a seat attached to this splitter. We had an elderly family member who was in awe of how easy this machine split wood and loved pushing the lever and see the blocks open up, so I welded the seat bracket on and found the pan seat to bolt to it. Now days when my wife is well enough to help, she sits on the seat and runs the lever, or otherwise when I am alone the lever an easy arm reach for me.
(( BOY IF I HAD A BUCK FOR EVERY PEICE OF FIRE WOOD I HAVE SPLIT WITH THIS SPLITTER. PURCHASED 1973?))

I'm not a 'safety Nazi' and don't think I've ever before posted any type warning about what someone else chooses to do, but...............have been running chainsaws, sawmill, wood splitter and who-knows-how-many different kinds of farm and construction equipment..........some of it for 60 years; no way I'd feed a wood splitter with someone else's hand on the control lever; ESPECIALLY someone with physical problems.

I don't know how you get family members to help with wood. have been cutting, hauling, splitting, stacking, carring in stacking on back porch then carring in house and stacking beside stove then the wife is good enough to build fire.

Ex FIL was the same except the 3 women in his house wouldn't touch a stick of wood.......... But yap when the fire went out........ Me and another fool got two of them off his hands for awhile but sent them back........

It's interesting to read how other folks feel about doing the firewood thing. I find enjoyment in the whole scope of "doing firewood". I fell the tree, haul it home in lengths I can handle, cut it to stove lengths with the buzzsaw, split it with the Huskee, and throw it into the woodshed. When ready to burn, I load up a small trailer of wood, haul it to the patio, then carry it into the house with a "carrier". And it's also my job to do the firemaking thing. All this so that I don't have to do exercises to keep me limber---and I'm crowding 80-----

I just started up my coal stove this afternoon. I always wait for the forecast to be cold because the coal stove doesn't throttle down too well, and kind of like the old tractors you have to start them on wood and then slowly switch it over to coal. Cleaning and starting for the season takes a little better than an hour, but there is no working up to be done and so it saves a lot of time but doesn't cost any more. I get to spend the time with my tractors instead of firewood LOL.
