My name is Gabriel. W. I am 9 yrs. old and the owner of a 1950 super A.I have pigs and chickins.I got to spread the first load of manoure.

It"s good to know you Gabriel. I started driving tractors and horses when I was six. There were a lot of family around to keep an eye on me. Work safely and don"t take any chances. Ed

Gabriel,
Nice to have you on here. I think it is great for a young man of your age to be interested in tractors and the good farm life. I have beef cattle and a few old chickens. I used to raise pigs too. I am 43 years old and I still like to haul manure, except when the manure spreader has problems. Enjoy the farm life! Take care.

I have 11 Road island reds and 2 Yorkshire pigs.I am only allowed to post what my parents see.My dad is Mark W.

I am Gabes dad and very proud of him. He helps me turn wrenches and loves to work with the animals. His grandfather has 13 Ih's and farmalls and loves studying them. He has his own set of tools and is learning to use them. This is the only "chat" site he is allowed on. Thanks for welcoming him!

Stick with it son. I started hauling manre with an 8N Ford when I was 6. Still hauling manure today. I don't know if that's encouragement for you or depressing for me.

Hi Gabe. I have 16 laying hens myself. Got them so the grand kids could watch them grow and experience the life cycle of animals. When I was a kid here on the farm growing up my mother had 300 to 400 chickens and I hated them. Hated everything about them. I liked the cattle and especially the pigs. I now raise 12 pigs a year for butchering. Dad. What do you do for a living?

This is Gabes dad and to answer your question I am a middle school math teacher and closet hobby farmer. Still milk cows on parents farm when called upon......and still don't like it.

Nice to have you here. I am 32 years old and have a farm in partnership with my brother and dad. We raise beef cattle and our own hay. I am an elementary teacher for my full time career occupation, and it is great to see a young man like yourself interested in farming and mechanical things. If you develop a good work ethic at this stage of life, you will be set forever. The most frustrating thing I see on a daily basis is young people with no kind of work ethic. I get the impression this is not the case for you, and I commend you for that.

Welcome, I am a woodsman and today hauled out 2 cord through the woods. Nothing like bringing home a load of wood. Wife has horses and i help her with them. Dont get on the site much but lots to learn from their threads.

Welcome Gabe. Good to have you here. You'll find alot of knowledge and experience on this site, as well as good company in general. Glad to see another young tractor enthusiast.

Welcome Gabe. Most of us here have a farm background or a still farming. For me it's a very small 12 acres of soybeans and wheat but I still enjoy all of it at age 68. Gets in your blood and you can't get it out, no matter how old you get. By the way, I grew up feeding 2,000 chickens every day, and that was before automatic feeders and waterers. Hope to see more from you.

It's good to see that some young folks realize that is more to life than just computers and i phones. Hang in there Gabe, and your parents are to be commended as well.

Gabe, Welcome aboard. You sound like myself around that age I had chickens, and a pig. I didn't have the opportunity to own a tractor at your age, but the first tractor I drove was my Dad's farmall A. Don't be a strainger. Stan

Gabe, I see that your dad mentioned that your grandpa has 13 IH tractors and you like them. We have two, a 1936 Farmall F20 and our newest treasure is a 1931 Farmall Regular that my husband and I are restoring (though it will probably take us a couple of years to get it done). My husband will make it run perfectly, but we are going to keep the tractor rusty like we found her sitting under a big ol" honeysuckle bush where it had been for nearly 40 years. I will attach a couple of photos of the Regular - though it is now on full steel wheels and the engine block is removed. Someday I may post our restoration story and photos here. Also, we have son who is a teenager and he started learning about mechanics and carpentry from my husband when he was little like you and he is now able to do some mechanic work and to build woodworking projects on his own. He is now building a large bird cage in which the framing replicates an old hip-roof barn. It is very cool. So you keep up the good work and you will learn a lot and when you"re an adult you will be able to do anything!

Oops... was only able to attach one photo. Here is the second photo of the 1931 Farmall Regular - we had just loaded it onto the trailer to bring home. As I said, it is now on full steel wheels and my husband is tearing it down for restoration. We are having a lot of fun working on this project together. I find the parts and technical info on the computer and he does the mechanic work.

Welcome Gabe!! That's not such a bad idea....... Quite a few folks on here should have an adult look over what they write before they post it

If you run out of poo to haul, I can put you up for the winter......

Welcome Gabe! My oldest son is your age.He likes tractors also but doesn't own one yet.

I keep about a dozen pure white homing pigeons around to help train hunting dogs. I got the initial breeding stock as eggs from the Disney World in Florida flock. I could send you several next spring if you like.
You can make money releasing them at weddings and funerals, and you get them back:)

Howdy Gabe. Nice to meet you. I grew up with about 300 Road Island Reds and some white leghorns, Hampshire hogs, sheep and hereford cattle. I now collect and restore John Deere Tractors. Never had a JD on the farm, Grandpa didn't like them. Had a Massy Harris, an Allis Chalmers and a Farmall. All good tractors. Welcaome to the site. Hope to hear more of you. rw

Welcome to the forum. I hope you have great expereinces using the site.

Glad to see a fellow as young as you are, is intersted in carrying on the farming way of life..

Welcome Gabe! 'Twas 52 yrs ago that I was your age. I think there are a lot more young people out there that are involved in the old tractor hobby than most think. Problem is , they don't make the news like the trouble makers. Our news media doesn't reallize that "positive" news sells also. Every year for the last 4 years , over 800 antique tractors/owners have amassed (me included)for the annual crossing of the great 5 mi long Mackinac Bridge that links Lower and Upper Michigan. Have ANY of you on here ever seen any news media or tv coverage of it??? No drugs/alcahol/rock parties/nudity or shootings?? Why it don't stand a chance of any coverage. Gabe , you are a sign that there is hope yet. Us old guys just need to do a better job of "recruiting". RB

Hello Gabe. I"m 62 years old and I too have been hauling manure since I was about your age. It's a good job. Sure, it's nasty and smells bad at times and I seem to always get it all over me.....but every load I haul out just makes me feel good to know that that grass is gonna be growing green and tall after I put that manure on it. I love that job. I"ve got cows and chickens and tractors too. I love gathering the eggs....enjoy eating them more! If you've ever got any questions you need to ask about your livestock or your tractors, this is the place! Welcome.
