OT Solar Panel Question for Buick and Deere

Like many people in our area we have a solar panel set up on the farm that, after being installed a year ago has yet to be connected to the grid. Fortunatly for ourselves we only lease the property the panel sits on and do not own the equipment. There is however a lot of rumours as to why connections have not been made,,although there are panels operating which were installed after ours. One story I have heard is that Ontario Hydro says the existing lines and equipment cannot handle the power generated by these panels. This to me makes little if no sense.I understand that one of these panel would not light my barn, yet 25+ years ago every other farm around here fed cattle and depended on 3-10HP electric moters running off the grid which was not in the shape that it is today. Is this a viable argument? My understanding of electicity is not like that of some on this board but I am quite sure that electron flow is electron flow no matter what direction it travels. I look forward to your insight, Thanks, Bob

Ontario Hydro are a Bunch of Idiots...they made deals to pay for kilowatt hours based on the cost of a panel that will produce a kilowatt hour, however, the cost of the panels has dropped to about half of what it was even three or four years ago...so now they want to pay less to the producer of that kilowatt hour, they point at Europe and say the costs of electricity are coming down there....
So Hydro started off paying something like 71 cents a kilowatt hour and selling it for 4.5 cents, being surplus power to the grid..makes a lot of sence!!!..they also say they have to have more generating facilities to supply customers at off times..like at night! Its no wonder we have problems with power in Ontario...Managers and CEO with salaries in the six figures or more!

There are people who will receive FIT contracts in late 2011/early 2012. That they applied for in early/mid 2011. While the 10KW roof mount price was 80.2 cents.
However they will find their offered price much much lower than what it was. When they signed contracts to build solar systems.
The Ontario government which is going broke paying for a "abundant" agenda. Has instructed the various agencies to drop the FIT prices.
Tics me off because I was going to install a 30KW roof mount system on a new shed. And 10KW on my parents shed. The shed and 30KW solar system would have been paid off in seven years. Then 13 more years of "free" money.
It was a "feel good" green energy program to appeal to urban voters. The urbanites would typically install 1-2 KW of panels and a grid tie inverter. Then faithfully vote abundant because they were being "paid off" by the rate payers.
The Ontario governemt bureaucrats which are in Toronto have no clue of the province past the Toronto city lights. They never ever imagined farmers installing 10KW or 30KW solar systems on each farm they own.
Instead of the expected thousands of watts of FIT solar and wind power. There has been hundreds of thousands of watts solar/wind power added. Then over paid for.

Two or more things went wrong.
#1 The number of FIT applications exceeded expectations by at least 10 fold. The IEMO, Ontario Energy Board, Hydro One etc. Where all caught in a backlog of applications. The "wise thinkers" in Toronto never imagined farmers by the thousands putting up 10 or 30KW systems. All that was expected was hundreds of 1-2 KW urban systems.
#2 Some farmers never read the fine print and waited for a grid assessment, then a connection offer. They either built or signed contractors to build solar systems. Without first ensuring a grid connection is possible.

The problem isn't always the lines being loaded to max. It's electrical noise and surges from all the invertors and induction generators. Way out on the tail end of a power line, 20+ miles away from a substation.
Line current, frequency and voltage protection relays. Are going to see this noise and ripples as faults and keep tripping the breakers open.
