well victor is still on the removal process of information instilled from the factory. He haS BEEN On THE COMPUTER removing crap since 10;30am,now its 5:45pm.It seems to me (the biggest dummy that I am) why there isn"t a cancellation proram that lines up all the info on the computer,by a series of checks, that you want to save to discs.(in constant running time then another series of boxes to check that will allow you to wipe off the computers information by one fell swoop, allowing the computer to crash within a matter of minutes. Was wondering if anyone was genius enough nto do that.Maybe the government processure are able to do it.The Kodak icon took over 10 minutes to delete. Now if you multiply that time table for every item that was factory installled or we installed, you could fathom you could set at the computer for 3 days removing programs. The saying less is more, comes into play in this instance. My son in law wiped his computer twice, before buying a new one.he probably got 2 virus previous from grandsons inquiry on adult sites,HE HE HE.Not so on this computer.LOL.
Wife is past that point in life.(bam I just got hit with a paN)But seriously folks,if it"s not possible to re inergise this puter,we"re going to beam into outer space and buy a new one.Our computer usage,is necessay for us for ordering parts for tractors, dozer, bobcat, trucks, trailers, and everything else we have thats mechanical. Most on a daily basis. In the process of making restoration process on our equipment,we gathwered a significant amount of info, from YT from some really good guys.
I also was wondering if you guys(computer geniuses) ever built one from component parts? That had omitted unecessay programs. The funny part of it all, is how the companies sneak in programs that are hard to remove as hens teeth. We"re coming down now on the list of deleted programs,as we are doing ours,to keep from purchaseing a new one.Well you read my second rant, like the man said,LESS IS MORE.
Thanks for your patience and help, regards,
LOU
P.S. DID YOU EVER NOTICE THAT THE MOST EXPENSIVE THINGS ARE THE ONES THAT GO FIRST,ITEMS THAT BREAK THE BANK.
that must be what they call built in obsolescense

Hey Lou,
I just built a computer from a barebones kit from Tigerdirect.com. the kit came with a case, motherboard, intel cpu with fan, 4 gig memoryk, hard drive and dvd burner. the only thing I had to add was windows 7 64bit. my order was around $425 total. I built it on Wed. the 12 so I have had it about a week and a half. it runs great, the only problem was the case had a cheap power supply. power supply went belly up this last wed. I had a spare so it wasn't a problem, and tiger direct is sending me a new power supply. if you can turn screws, plug in cables and load software then you can put one together. it is not hard. the case has standoffs that match the motherboard just be careful when you mount the motherboard and when you install the cpu. you can spend as much on a kit as you want to, this one is not the fastest or greatest but it runs great and will fulfill what I need it for. it has no bloatware. no mcafee or norton, no aol, just what I have installed. I bought windows 7 64 bit oem version($99). the oem version will be linked to the motherboard by microsoft. hope this helps, there are forums that can help also, if you are interested. two good ones are techguy.org and newbies.com. both are good and both are free. I like newbies best and have posted on there, both asking questions and offering help.

if you do be sure to use a grounding strap to ground yourself to the case to prevent static. a lot of integrated circuits are static sensitive.

If all you really need is a browser for internet use you could buy a new hard drive and install Linux. The reason for a new hard drive is so you still have the old one if you ever realize there was a file on the old one you really, really need. A new drive doesn't cost much and is usually easy to install.

Microsoft had (and kind of still has) a monopoly on business application software but browsers like Firefox and Chrome run just as well on Linux. You can get word processors and spreadsheets but they might be a little quirky. I'd start with Ubuntu Linux, it's real easy to install.

Find someone with a computer you can be reasonably sure is clean to download and burn the installation DVD for you. It's free. Or order one for a nominal price and be completely safe. Linux used to have problems connecting to wireless networks but it's getting better; connecting with a cable is always easiest.

Thanks WFW,
Sounds alomst like building an atomic bomb from scratch.LOL. It seems it could be done, but for me and my big hands, almost too much to ask for.Even typing on this little laptop I am making huge typing errors,as you can tell.
Appreciate the information though.

LOU

Lou, I buy my computers, from a dealer, that does just that. He buys each board, drive, whatever, and builds from scratch, with what software you want.
