Winter Barley in Central IL?

Anyone plant winter barley in Central IL? I'm looking for a winter cover crop that perhaps I can bale in the spring & sell the straw for pond plant growth control... Any ideas on where I can find seed, and when I need to plant?
 
You should be able to grow winter barley in central Il. Some growers in southern Wi have had relative success with it. I was thinking about trying it myself but my local seed dealer thought it would probably be a waste of money. He figured being North of Madison would be too cold for it. Google Albert Lea Seed if I remember right they carry it.
