Just was reading on a British farming forum that before they can modify/renovate or add on to a farm building/structure that they have to have a bat survey done to determine if they inhabit the structure (and make necessary accomadations if they do) before moving forward.....

Could be on it's way to a theater near you with all the tree huggers around.......

unbelievable.....

..I'd leave a tractor running overnight in the building, with all the doors shut....pick 'em up and then have my inspection telling them there haven't been bats around here in twenty years!

Maybe they don't carry the same diseases over there? Here you
can't sell your house if it has bats, costs 10,000$ to get a certified
company to clean out your attic and spray it all down.

DISCLAIMER Im NOT advising this or guarantee its accurate, buttttttttttt I knew this "dude" who was in trouble over an alleged failed septic system and the county was going to come to this "dudes" home to test his septic field area for e coli bacteria. Anywho he had this buddy who worked in that department that told him e coli was in warm blooded animals as well as humans soooooooooooo the "dude" fenced off his front yard where the septic field was and put horses in there prior to the inspection. When the inspectors arrived the morning to do the test and the dude was there with a camera to document there were horses, the insepctors grumbled n drove off.

"Thats all I have to say about that"

John T Wonder who that dude was hmmmmmmm

Around here we have the Indiana Bat, which is a protected type animal that lives in the shag bark hickory trees. Any significant land operation/clearing/improvement usually has to have a survey done for them.
Last time I was involved in one, the environmental girl they sent said he was looking for presence of the Indiana Bat. Told her my wife was at home and not to ever call her that again. This girl had no sense of humor...

Have the survey in Jan. cause the bats have moved south for the winter.

Same in the states for the Indiana bat and shag bark Hickory trees for pond building - do it after the go south.

I had a colony of bats in my barn. I guess the bats eat insects, and some people like them. The bats carry rabies. They are protected also, like rattle snakes. Here is the problem I have with bats. They nest in the overhead and crap all day while they are sleeping, on every thing below. Then when evening arrives they circle inside the building before leaving for the night, and while circling they let loose some liquid to make sure they hit everything that wasen't crapped on. The bats in my area come from Mexico, in the spring, and leave in the winter. My bats didn't make the return trip. I guess I shouldn't have left that motor running in the barn. Stan

Bats & used oil filters - the govt is all full of do gooders with rules on what you can't do, but they all run away when it comes to actual solutions to the problems we in the real world have.

Can't harm a bat, but can't let them live in the house.

Can't landfill or burn an oil filter, contact local hazardous folk for collection/recycling. Local folk tell you to contact the state & fed people that sent you to the local folk because they aren't allowed to take them....

Yea, thanks for all the help. What do those folk think will happen?
