Counties colored white are under a frost advisory tonight.

I know I'm not ready for it.

> What's the orange? Famine? Pestilence? Plague?

FIRE! Or more specifically: "A fire weather advisory is issued when dry conditions in the advisory area result in a situation where forest or brush fires are possible."

The white areas are not necessarily frost advisories either, but it's either frost or something worse :)

I imagine it stands for the Red Flag Warning we're under right now for critical fire weather conditions (high winds, very dry, low humidity, possible lightning strikes).

edit:
I didn't notice that tjdub had already answered the question.

Seesm that they missed a spot of orange in north east MN......yep on the frost....just that time of the year.

Rick

> yep on the frost....just that time of the year.

It's about a month early down here towards the bottom of the white area. There are even freeze warnings in Iowa. I'm guessing there will be some lows for the record books in central MN/IA tonight.

Map is more then accurate from the feeling this morning. When I got up and looked at both weather dials, both registered 38o so it wont be long before the big freeze and snow storms hit. lol. Victor is hauling manure for next years garden so we can have our vegies. Sure had a swell garden this year. Every thing came in like gang busters. Freezer is full, just melons left to get tonight. Some potatoes still in the ground. One peculiar thing with our garden. We shredded all the plants, vines(except tomato )put to use our new Troy built tiller and now we have straggler plants growing up in the garden including corn, tomatoes, cukes, beets etc. Sure looks like after the shredder did its duty we tilled and leveled, so now we have a brand new garden showing up on it's own.lol.I Know it's to good to be happening but it's growing, Won't be growing after tonight. Was wondering if any one else had this happen? Victor just brought in the 3rd load and there is at least 8 more to come. Tried yesterday to haul but the 706 wouldn't start. Had a split coil and a bad battery. Off to Farm & Fleet for a new battery, and O Realy's for the coil. Got it running again. Now both the tractor& bobcat has to be washed, another job. After all this is finished, next comes the wood . Been burning some at night(popular) and some small oak to keep the chill out. Winter is on it's way folks. Keep warm. Regards LOU & Victor.

Hey, Lou! Good to see you post here again! Hope you will stick around this time. We've missed hearing from you. Not sure why you left, (heard it was some knucklehead!) but sure hope it doesn't happen again. We need some of that good piano music once in a while! Also miss seeing your pics!

Hi Rick. Things are going O.K. Victor is hauling today.Hope i can stick around for the next summers garden, So far So good. Thanks for the reply. Regards LOU.

Thanks for the reply. I havn't touched the keyboard for quite a spell. Maybe some time later on. I guess Old age requires more and more additional sleep-rest. 76 years does something to a person. lol. still love life so if the Good Lord is willing, I guess he just might allow mw another year or so. Thanks for the reply. Regards LOU.

Good to hear from you Lou, was just thinking, wheres that guy from Wisconsin with the OC-3, (OC-? if not a 3)

I've had that happen in the spring, when tilling and after I've planted, tomatoes usually, and the darned things produced, late but nonetheless. I did not till the fall prior, so the seed was still ok, but I now try to till in the fall after its done, to kill off those hornworm larvae/eggs, which I got but fought off by hand, it worked, plenty of tomatoes, homemade sauce came out great.

How do you like that tiller ? If your soil is not too hard, sod bound, dry, rocky, compacted, they are a great tool for the garden, my soils are like that here sometimes, not so bad when moist though.

saw 36 degrees in deadwood south dakota a 11 am 39 in sturgis sd. 47 as I walked in the door a few minutes ago ?? sure felt cool this morning.Paul

Lou good to hear from you.. 76 is no step just keep going.. Forcast for North west Tennessee Tomorrow night in the low 40 s will feel like fall. How is the little Oliver holding up.. ?

Jim , 76 is a milestone for me.lol. The O.C.46 is resting for the winter now, It sure did us a fine job,so unless we need to pull.push. and do some snow removal (if all fails) then it gets our best care. Thanks for asking.Regards LOU

Billy from NY. Yep the O.C.46 is resting now. Waiting for the time we will need it again. That garden is the most peculiar thing. Plants coming up again after tilling and shredding.Had two truck loads of good black dirt hauled in, and Victor leveled it out and we got us a troy built rear tine tiller. Works great. I noticed Larry"s pictures of his rear tine tiller and we was so impressed we got one.sure beats what we had(and still have) to work with. Now today, Victor hauled in 4 giant loads of horse manure to mix with more black dirt for next years garden. One of these days, I'll dig out the photo of the farm with the Hwy sign and see if Larry or some one could trace it back We lived close to Cory Pa and pop worked at the glass works there. Any way sure would be interesting to see (if at all possible) to find the farm still standing. I sure was a young lad when we had it. Any way thanks for the swell post. Regards LOU.

Yea, about 3 weeks early on that frost in my part of MN, and we got 3 weeks late planting 'here' with all the rian & cold in spring, there are some very green beans around me inclusding some of mone.

Well, anyhow green now, not so sure in 12 hours or so....

It is still 82 degrees at 21:40 here in Northern Louisiana. We had a high of 102 degrees Monday... Hard to imagine frost in September. We normally do not see that until November or December.

Fire risk is still here. A parish (county in Louisiana) north of us burned countless houses and thousands of acres. Similar to East Texas.

CT

Yep- similar here, 90 miles north of you. Some fields turning, not mine or many others. Will be devastating coming this early, when a whole state or more freezes out, markets will go wild, elevators will dock the heck out of green BB"s!

Dang! Looks like if they can't burn us out, they're gonna try to freeze us out! I'm beginning to wonder what it's gonna be like here this winter. Already seen blackbirds swarming like they do just before cold weather.
