Wrecked 13.6x38 - suggestions?

Farmall 656 - I wrecked a 13.6x38 tire last weekend when I lost a lynch pin and the plow frame swung into the inside of the right rear tire.

Tire is shot. Was a Good Year DynaTorque II R1. I bought the tractor with no history; no idea how old they were. They have some checking but I figured they had 10 years+ left in them the way I use this tractor (better than 50% tread left).

A used tractor dealer 1.5 hours south of me has a 'weather checked one with nearly 100% tread on it still' for $175. No idea what brand and it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to go check. I asked for a picture and he responded 'You want me to take a picture of a $175 used tire?!' I politely said 'yes' and gave him me email address but I'm not holding my breath waiting for the picture.

Other route is 2 new tires. If I go the new route I'm going to put on good ones (Firestones?). My local tire dealer was closed today due to Labor Day weekend so I called another dealer in a nearby town and he said he didn't see any of his distributors stocking a Firestone in this size?

Your thoughts please. What are considered 'good' Ag tires now? I have 10 year old Good Years on another tractor that I have been please with but I think Good Year sold their Farm Tire business?

We run michelin raidials on most our equipment. Pretty pricy tho.We run some firestones as well.I like the radials cause they dont seem to bounce as bad and they seem to bukle down and bite better. Just my opinion. Once you price a new set of any tires you mite get sticker shock.lol. I would try to find a used tire if I could myself. But I also hate havin two different tread styles on things two.Im different that way. Id write that guy off that doesnt seem to have the time to send a pic to you.Guessn he must not need to sell anything bad enuff.

I put a pair of 13.6x38 Akurets on my M several years ago. At that time, the Akurets were priced at $180 per tire, compared to $240 for a Good-year or Firestone, and the Akuret had a much better warranty. I'm sure the prices have gone up considerably since then, but as long as you have a dealer who will be around for years to come, I see no reason to pay any more than necessary for a pair of new tires.

Put two new ones on and advertise your good used one. Someone else out there has the same problem as you and will pay you well for your tire.

A few years back I was able to pick up a pair of new take-offs 13.6x38 because when the dealer sold a new sprayer the customer wanted another size. The take-offs had been sitting about 5 years so the dealer was anxious to have them gone.

where are u located? Your going to want to buy used as a new set of firestones will run in the neighborhood of 1300 to 1500. I have one for sale for 250 almost new and a set of new ones for 700. Gives you an idea of the prices.

There is that tire on ebay with a MH44 rim for $300, you might be
cheaper to look at it and remount. I priced new ones and you will
be shocked.

Yep, I was thinking it would be about $1,500. I'm in North Central TX; where are you located?

I wrecked a 13.6 38 this summer and I took it to a tire shop in the area and he vulcanaize it for me. I could have it fix 5 times for what a new tire will cost.

Bridgestone/Firestone has a 6 mo interest free finance plan-but ya gotta pay it off in 6 monthgs or they will backcharge interest to purchase date at 24%.I'used it several times.

TX Jim, I drive thru Boyd pretty much every day of the year. I had never noticed that Craigslist post until you referred to it. Must be the place on the south side of the road heading east out of town. My wife noticed a couple of used tractor tires there on the way home from church today. Amazing, I normally can't get her help me spot any treasures but apparently when I mention I might have to spend $1,500 on some new tires her radar turns on! I'll give them a call on Monday/Tuesday. (If they are supporting the oil patch they might be open Labor Day.)
