How Dry Is It In Texas?

A buddy of mine in Longview Texas said that he killed a mosquito carrying a
canteen.
------
A man in Dime Box, Texas said the chicken farmers were feeding chickens
crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.
------
In Lake Palestine, they caught a 20 lb catfish covered with ticks.
------
In Bryan, Texas. A fire hydrant was seen bribing a dog.
------
It's so dry in Texas:
The Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling.
The Methodists are using wet- wipes.
The Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks.
And the Catholics are praying for wine to turn back into water.

NOW FOLKS THAT'S DRY!

the question is...was that New or Old Dime Box?
skeery thing is we aint hit the driest part of summer yet...guessterologist keeps saying 20-30% chance of t-storms...i heard some thunder but never saw a drop of rain...we need another TS Claudette like back in '79...it came in....went back out and came in again for like a week...think it dropped 20 some inches in 3 days and most of it sunk in.

You know it's bad when folks are hoping for a hurricane to hit! lol.

As far as the weather forecast, I've been noticing that they always add a chance of rain in on the last couple of days of the 10 day forecast. I think they just do that to give folks hope.

Here's my pond...or should I say, here's my hole.

I guess if there's ever a year to clean it out now is the time. I'm cleaning it out with my 641 and a box blade. lol. Slow going but gettin' there.

IIRC, wasn't it you who posted pics of wife and daughter with fish they caught out of your pond?

Guess it will be back to square one, fish-wise, when it fills up again.

You remember well, but this is a different pond. This one is on our new place and really needs some work. The previous owner didn't lift a finger in years and now I'm cleaning up the mess. As long as it's dry I'm going to keep at it and this fall allot of those trees are coming off so that we can drive on the dam again. Going to try and replace the junk trees with some bald cypress. This pond is right behind our house.

As far as the pond that we were fishing in, it's not far from the same and I suspect the oxygen in the water is getting pretty low. It's really tough down here right now.

What's all for ground water anymore? How deep are the wells? And if you got water, how good? As I drove around Montana, saw these white patches all over, thought it was what's left of snow drifts, or fertilizer piles.... but it was the ring of alcalide around dry watering holes. Good place for dish washer detergent commercials. This is getting to be a sad serious situation, wish you guys luck.

Mine looks just like that. DRY!!!! we have had barely 3 inches of rain since last SEPT. been over 100 for 45 or so day"s so far this year. Been 110 for the last 3 weeks. not anything green anywhere except for the Mesquites and some of them are starting to get a yellow tinge to em. everyone is cleaning out their tanks, cant find a dozer or excavator anywhere that isnt cover up with work.

Tropical Storm Claudette dumped 43 inches in a little more than 12 hours just north of my mother's house near Alvin, TX in '79. There was one solid sheet of water from the Brazos River in Ft. Bend County across Brazoria County to Galveston and Harris Counties all the way to Clear Creek near the Johnson Space Center. In 2001, T.S. Allison dumped almost that much over parts of Houston and eastern Harris County. I-10 was under 10 feet of water in Houston. We need rain badly, but would rather not get it that way.

in southwest OK, same story.....haven't mowed all year...work on stuff at night because it is only mid eighties at night...our lake that's used for irrigation is almost empty which means no more irrigation--over half the cotton has been plowed up and insurance total lossed. hogs a little easier to hunt...just wait on the red river and wait for them to mud up..

old timers always said it would take a gulf storm when it gits this dry. i sold all my cattle 2 weeks ago. i"m in brazoria county.

One thing I have noticed. The Deer are starting to come into town and peoples homes looking for water. Had five in my back yard this morning drinking from the dogs water supply.

It hit 111º here yesterday with the normal for this date being 90º.

It is so dry that fish carrying small tin cups are coming to homes and asking for drinks of water.

Guys, Dry?!! Was 5 miles west of Goldthwaite,Tx--Mills County, just S. of Brownwood, Tx/Brown County.... on a bone, power dry road this afternoon. Had 1/2 mile of7 in deep loose powder on top no traction at all, had to lock in 4x4 to get through it. Was really weird getting out of it. Hate to think what the neighbors do to get through it!

So dry the air smells like drying hay and you are no where near a hay field.
***
The grass crunch's under your feet when you walk on your yard or out in the pasture! So very true!
***
The Oak trees are beggin the dogs to stop by them.
***
A local fisherman caught a few catfish the other day and they had ticks!

I think I'll do like a neighbor I had when I lived in Maricopa, Arizona. He put the water hose on the roof and turned it on so his kids would have an idea of what rain is. The folks that lived down the road didn't do this so when it did finally rain his boy fainted from fright. They had to throw sand in the boy's face to revive him. he-he=he
