chain saw issue

Stihl MS250 chain saw. The saw is about 14 years old and has seen more use than most. The two bolts that hold the bar to the saw have pulled out of the housing. They are actually threaded into the plastic. I screwed them back in using red locktite, but this is probably a very temporary fix. Anybody else had this issue and what was the fix? New chainsaw??? Thanks, Ellis

I had that happen to my 029, although only with one stud; the other stud is screwed into metal on my saw. I epoxied in the bad stud and it's been fine for twenty years.

Before you assemble your saw, make sure the nuts will spin freely on the studs. If they won't, clean everything up and do whatever is necessary to fix the problem. It's a good idea to keep a spare nut on hand. If the nuts won't turn freely on the studs, the studs will come out the next time you remove the bar.

Locktite and hope seems like a good strategy. I'd make sure you weren't overtightening the bar nuts. You may be able to get a new housing, but at 15 years old, a new 250 might be the way to go.

I saw a Youtube video on that just last weekend. There are oversize bar studs for some Stihl chainsaws.

This style of insert uses new larger thread to reinforce the existing hole, and create a same size new steel thread in place of the stripped one. Jim

If you can get access to the back side if the plastic you could drill the holes to the proper size send insert bolts from the back. Weld a piece to link the bolts together and reassemble. Now you have reenforced the plastic and you mount the bar with washers and nuts. HTH Sam Womer (PA)

this is one example where you cant just heave on the nuts. nice and snug as there is the chain tensioner holding the bar from moving also. i pay close attention to them nuts for tightness.

Glad I changed brands when I replaced my Stihl saw. You wonder how long people are going to put up with the garbage these companies are making today. I bought a Craftsman saw and so far it seems to be the best chain saw I've ever owned. The only complaint might be if the chain gets a little loose it's prone to come off the bar. You have to keep a closer eye on the tension.
