Oliver 550 Diesel

My new to me 550 was gifted to me because of low power and smoking. Once I got it going i found out it was hazing fuel mist, not smoking so
after battling a whole mess of seized bolts to get the nose and fuel tank off I removed the valve cover and found a sludgy mess from poor
servicing and #1 exhaust broken spring and #2 intake broken spring. I found that Ford N springs are basically the same diameter but a bit
shorter so the seat and open pressures will be low, but close enough that I can run it a bit and make sure the problem is gone before
ordering parts. i found an old parker 3/8 NPT bulkhead fitting that had the right 1NF outside thread so I could make an air fitting to go in
the energy cell hole to hold the valves with air while I swapped the springs. Once I know its good, it'll get 8 new springs, some gaskets and
a nice service

Good luck there with your project.
We have a gas 550 , wood splitter, mower, brushhogging too.
Made a hitch bolted to the front so we can push wagons etc.

She's a beaut! I can't post pics of mine right now because a previous owner painted it like the other green tractor. Its embarrassing! LOL

Yes, it was the valve springs. Back up and running and all the fuel hazing is gone. It feels and sounds good. Burning a touch of oil but I won't pass judgement on that til after I give it a good service and see. But it is possible the 2 front cylinders could be washouts. Fingers crossed. She's at 6500 and counting!

I looked into it and discovered the change you told me about. Mine is an early one with no rotators. So I'll stick with those. Thanks again!
