The Oliver Super 55 (s/n 23 490-518) that I acquired a few years ago has always had, based on the color-coded pressure gauge, low engine oil pressure. As I began changing the engine oil yesterday, I noted that the parts manual for an Oliver 66 shows a small diameter filter tube and a restriction orifice in the aluminum filter mount. Also, some vague references to this tube and disc are made in some old posts on this forum.
The filter tube and orifice disc are not present on my 55. Should my 55 have this filter tube and the restriction orifice??? If so, does anyone know the diameter of the orifice and the thickness of the disc?? The info for the Oliver 66 indicates a tube length of 2-1/8 is that correct?? Am I going to get into engine lube trouble if I add a restriction orifice??
Ive included a photo of the existing aluminum filter mounting bracket and a cut of the filter mount associated with an Oliver 66 with part numbers 94 and 97 highlighted.
