It seems that my hydra power gets hot enough pretty quick you cannot hold your hand on filter. Should these units create that much heat?

Hi:

A low tech method is to use your hand. Get the tractor to normal temperature and feel different areas of the cooler. Should be uniform is heat and close to the same heat level as the filter.

This would be a good spot for Duane Starr or John S to pop in. Back in the very early 70s
there was a brief changeover to a hotter thermostat in some models which led to the symptom
you describe. As I recall, we replaced all the ones we had out with a cooler, (180 I
think), one and the problem went away. gm

Run it for about 20-30 minutes and checked it with laser thermometer and run about 130 degrees, but seemed like it run hotter than that yesterday. Will take for a long drive tomorrow and check again.

Took 1850 for about a
1.5 mile ride at full throttle wit hydra power on high side, checked temp when I parked and highest temperature was 140 degrees, so maybe I don't have a problem. Will continue to monitor temperature. Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions.
