I believe my tractor is a early 9N with a Hupp auxiliary transmission. It has a high and a low.
Do any of you guys no anything about the Hupp?

I have 2 Hupps. Both are step up-step-down units I had 3rd one but it is in my son's NAA. All I know is that they work as well as the Sherman combo units. I have several step up Shermans and several combo units. My '51 and'52 8Ns both have combos. My 1945 2N has a cable operated Sherman step up. I also have 2 F&T step up units in 2N tractors. I have never been into any of them.

Good evening, John in Mich: I have ended up with a Hupp overdrive transmission that I do not expect to ever use. Is there a market for these? I drove the tractor (9N) that it came from, the Hupp seemed ok at that time. It has been sitting on a shelf in my barn. Thanks for any info.

Early 9N's are hard to find intact and have specific features that were obsolete by 1940 so ID'g one can be a futile effort trying to restore and get original parts
for. Next, the 9N introduced a dealer option from SHERMAN PRODUCTS with an Overdrive AUX Trans. Later the HI-LO AUX Trans was offered. The Sherman first had the
shifter knob as a cable system on the RH side of dash. Later the Sherman had a handle on the LH side of trans case. The HUPP came later but parts are hard to find if
at all. Many Sherman parts can be still found. Here are some pix to further ID things:

i might no something.

You can do your research on the history of the models and looking at the handle you can find out if you in fact
have a Hupp Combo. Not only move the handle up and down, but try pulling it out from the side of the tractor.
if it pivots away from the tractor you have a combo unit.
If your shifting an early unit, UNLIKE, the Sherman, they are highly prone to hanging up between ranges,
ESPECIALLY if you are trying to speed shift the trans. Make the shifts on those Hupps, slow and deliberate and
DO NOT try to curve off the edges as you shift between the different ranges. ESPECIALLY shifting into
UNDERDRIVE.
You will know when you are stuck between ranges. Release the clutch and the engine dies without moving.
In that case, block the front wheel, jack the rear, rotate the tires and that should free it up to get it
unstuck.

Uh, Stuff it into 4th gear and overdrive you will either have roughly a 15 or 25 MPH top speed with the Hupp
Combo.

Hupp being like a Sherman? Well, yeah, they both bolt into the same area in the tractor. The later designed
Hupps with upgraded internals and the roughly 25 MPH top speed were the closest to the Sherman.
Sherman did not make a 15 MPH top speed combo.
