RPM's on a 9N

as I have said many times before I have two 9N's. Both are converted to 12 volt system with Pertronix ignition units. Only one has been totally converted to a can style coil and that I presume you just measure the RPM's with that coil wire. But how do you measure RPM's on a square can coil?

Engine RPM'S has nothing to do with the coil. Hand held tachs are available as JMOR noted.

Are you aware of how to hook up a tachometer on a conventional engine?

TRY:
On the internet enter:

electrical tachometer connection for a four cylinder gasoline engine

Read information..There is a Telephone Number to call for assistance...

For the square coil, since you already have a hole in the distributor for the red wire that supplies power to the Pertronix unit from switched side of ignition switch, you can add another wire from the concave screw where the black wire from the Pertronix unit goes to through that same hole. You can then use that wire to connect your tach.

thank you...........makes sense.........so basically you connect your tack to the pertronix black wire at the concave screw that connect to the bottom of the square can coil. the same wire you connect to the negative side of a can coil right?

Old fashioned tach/dwell meter

I don't ever remember having a need to check the RPM's on the
44 2N Ford that is still 6 volt and will stat that way. Dad
may have checked PTO RPM's for the PTO combine but that was
before my time and 79 now. Just never had a need for that.
